Great location! Decent size room for New York. Bathroom was compact. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the doormen. We were surprised how quiet it was at night. The beds were extremely comfortable. Best sleep I've had in New York! Free internet access. There is a laptop computer at the front desk for guest use. Walking distance to great shopping, restaurants and the Empire State building.

Roger Smith Hotel Experience

Our room #610 was dirty, areas of the room had not been vacuum cleaned in a very long time, it smelled. Construction outside our window made the room very noisy and dusty during the day, and a noisy compressor was left charging all night, outside our window. Change of room requests were denied. Buffet breakfast made us seek. The bed was broken and was never fixed, the springs were noisy woke us up any time we moved in bed during the night. The bathtub had apparently been painted and the paint was peeling making the tub area moldy. It took extreme force to open the water valves in the sink. This hotel does not deserve a four of whatever rating, we have found better two star hotels in african villages.

Great hotel and value

The hotel is a wonderful place and a great value. The staff and service were excellent, and very polite and helpful. The room, although a bit small, was very comfortable. It had all the amenities anyone could ever need while visiting NYC. The room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location is good, just a few blocks from MSG, and near subway stations. Some nice restaurants are very close by. I loved the Euro art deco style of the hotel. It was very chic. Great place to stay!!

The personell and staff of this hotel make up for its shortcomings. The room was extremely small, decor was that of the 60's but I believe this was intentional. Our room had orange walls, barely enough room to get around the bed, and a very small bathroom. They only turn on the heat from 11 pm to 4 am, so if you get cold, don't turn on the heat, you'll only get cold air. The staff did bring me a space heater to use, but called me at 11 pm (2 hours after I had gone to bed) to tell me to turn on my heat and turn off the space heater! Overall the staff was excellent and went far beyond the call of duty, but the hotel itself just wasn't up to par.

Front Desk, Bell and Door Staff- Customer Support Excellence

We arrived very early in the morning of our check in day and were put right into a room immediately with no questions asked. The door staff remembered us and always say "Welcome back" which was a nice touch. Also, all employees were impeccably dressed and respectfully to the customers as well as to each other. I picked the hotel blindly and could not have been more pleased with the location, the people and the attention to detail.
