Comfortable stay in an old style downtown hotel.

Comfortable, old style hotel. Things were a little worn around the edges, but it was charming and pleasant place to stay. The beds were very comfortable. The room was comfortable. The only issue was windows would not close properly, allowing 15 degree air to blow in all night, which caused the heater to blow loudly the entire night. The parking fee was outrageous, but welcome to Chicago. Overall, a good value because of the online price.

Worth the $, but not deluxe

We went to Chicago for Thanksgiving and got a great deal for Wed.-Fri. nights. The check in was quick and the bellhop helped us unload. Fortunately, we didn't need to pay the high prices for city parking- our daughters live nearby and we were able to park in their neighborhood with a pass. The lobby was attractive and the elevators efficient. Our room was on the 7th floor and fairly spacious. It was definitely older, but had been updated. The room was clean, the beds pretty comfortable. One problem was that our son stayed one day until about 1:30 and the housekeeping didn't come...2 attempts later they brought us towels, though. The location is great- a short walk to Michigan Avenue and the Water Tower Place. We could also walk home from dinner in Old Town- not far from Second City. We went to the Pump Room Friday night to hear the jazz combo and it was pretty fun. Yes, I would stay there again at the prices we paid.

This was a great hotel and great experience. The staff was friendly and efficient. We had a lovely room and the hotel is close to everything. The price we got was extremely competitive.

Good location and excellent front desk customer service. Rooms aren't large but satisfactory. Small bathrooms but that didn't bother me. Overall a very good experience and I would definitely stay here again.

My weekend in Chicago was about strolling around the city enjoying some personal passions: a day at the Art Institute and a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. The Ambassador East was a perfect location, walking distance from the Magnificent Mile shops, and an easy bus ride to Wrigley. The neighborhood had tons of outdoor cafes, great people watching, and on Saturday a farmer's market with lots of flowers. My room was quite comfortable with a huge walk-in closet. Some people might have minded the faded spots on the carpet---not me. I liked being in a non-corporate space where I felt like I belonged in the city. The staff was very polite, made a point of calling me by name and the doormen helped me get to the airport on time. A few minor quibbles--the smallish television in the room didn't have sound on all channels and lost signal a few times. But the moment that I'll remember was the morning I went out to walk in the neighborhood and passed a family with two small children also walking nearby. The Dad pointed out the Ambassador and said, "That's where Mommy and Daddy stayed the night they got married." A place you want to point out to your kids, that's the Ambassador: classic, warm, memorable.
