The Sukhothai is absolute perfection - bliss.

A regular business traveller to Bangkok, this was my fourth or fifth stay at the Sukhothai in the last 18 months. The Sukhothai is a smaller, older property - a low-rise, with perhaps 6 or 7 floors only. It is definitely not a mega-hotel. This means that all the staff, from the doormen to the waitresses and managers, remember you *by name* and give you a welcome that is warm, genuine, and makes you feel like "home". The front desk staff are highly professional, and check-in is quick and painless. Rooms are spotlessly clean and elegantly furnished with perfect beds and linens, flat-screen LCD TV, desk with wired and wireless internet (USD 20 per day). Bathrooms are spacious with separate toilet, large shower, and independent bathtub. Full amenities and piles of huge bathtowels. Dining is very good: wonderful breakfast buffet (Western, Asian, Japanese). Celadon Thai restaurant is quiet and elegant but you may want to go to Baan Khanitaa just down the street 200m. The La Scala Italian (Tuscan) restaurant is the high-end restaurant but I felt that the value-for-money argument was weak. The most important thing to note is the absolutely fantastic level of service you'll receive, from the doormen right up to the General Manager. The staff of The Sukhothai are all highly professional, accommodating, and welcome you like only Thai people can. Each trip I am touched by the fact they all remember me by name and are genuinely happy to welcome me back. This is a 5-star property and does not really cater to children (no kids' activites apart from the pool, no children's menu, etc). If you're travelling with a young family, you'll probably want a mega-hotel. If you're here on business, or in a couple who can sightsee independently, this is perfection.

The Sukhothai Bangkok

The Sukhothai Bangkok

This literally is the best hotel I've ever stayed in, world-round. The service is impeccable, the concierge staff (Navy, especially) is incredible, and the rooms are top-notch.

For what we paid—US$160/night—we received far more than we could have expected. $160 a night in the States gets you into Quality Suites in some metro areas, so being downtown in a great metropolitan city half-way around the world for such a rate was a steal in our minds.

The food and other amenities not included in the room rate were pricey, but even those were possibly worth the money. We ate a breakfast buffet which was absolutely heavenly. It was so good I think we went back up to our rooms and slept for another three hours afterward.

They have a great gym and spa, and a nice outdoor pool and tennis court, with free racquet rentals.

The Sukhothai was well worth the money, and they go way above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that each and every guest has a fantastic experience in their hotel. We actually took pictures with the concierge and tipped everyone and their mothers when we left.

Again, best hotel I've ever stayed in.
