There is nothing special about the Days Inn on Munras Avenue, but it is a decent place to stay. Downtown Monterey is nearby. The main attractions for tourists---Fisherman’s Wharf, the ocean, Cannery Row---take no time to get to at all. Fast food restaurants are nearby, too: a Wendy’s is within walking distance. My room was small but decorated nicely in a deep burgundy motif with a wreath hanging over my bed. While there was no mini bar in my room, there was a refrigerator, which came in very handy for me as I enjoy drinking juice when I first wake up in the morning. There was also a small microwave, VCR, and cable TV. The bathroom was tiny, but the water pressure in the shower---a very important thing to me---was marvelously strong. My room was clean even though my blankets showed wear, and I was comfortable throughout my stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating, too. I noticed a modest continental breakfast was available in the small lobby of the hotel. Because you have to walk across the parking lot to get to the lobby, I did not realize that the coffee, juice, bagels and muffins were available for guests until I was checking out. There was not a big selection, but everything looked fresh. I grabbed some coffee to go. The list price for this hotel on the door was $300/night. At that rate, I would not have liked my room. However, I booked the hotel through the IgoUgo accommodations feature (not the special deals), and two nights stay ended up being $125 in total, which was a really great deal for the area. Expect to pay more in the tourist season.
There are certainly nicer, more luxury focused hotels in Monterey--see Hyatt Regency for an example--but the Days Inn is kinder to a traveler on a budget! I am sure the Days Inn rates (even specials) are higher at the height of the tourist season, but they are still going to be lower than the higher end accommodations in town.
