Hilo Seaside Hotel

This older hotel across the street from Harrington's on Banyan Drive is a quaint and charming budget hotel. It is clean and well kept and has a Polynesian ambiance. Room prices are reasonable starting around $82 for a standard room. Their room categories range from standard (garden view), superior (Hilo Bay or poolside view) and deluxe (near lobby). They also offer room/car packages. The grounds are laid around a central courtyard and there is a nice koi pond to the right of the entrance. Rooms are very comfortable with a TV, beds, air-conditioning, a refrigerator, and standard bathroom. The rooms have the jealousy type of windows so you can see out into the garden or pool area. Note that if you get a standard room (garden view) it could be located at the far end of the lobby so if you have someone in your party that has a hard time walking far, then get a superior or deluxe room which is closer to the lobby. They recently added new tile to the area around the pool so it looks a lot better now. They also have a nice restaurant located right next to the hotel lobby. For the reasonable price and great location, I would recommend staying at the Hilo Seaside if you are on a budget. Don't expect anything fancy at this hotel because it is very similar to staying at a Best Western Hotel.

Upon check in I found the staff very friendly. No complaints about the room as previous review stated. Laundry facility located on property which is a plus. There is a restaurant located on the property and found the food very tasty. There are several eatting spots within walking distance. Besides Ken's try Verna's Drive Inn the Pastele Plate was the Bomb! I would definately return, you can't go wrong with the price. One other thing we stayed by the Pool side and there was not a sound from those Coquie frogs :o)

Basic, but satisfactory

Basic accommondations, clean but nothing fancy. Phone with charges for local calls, TV and mini-fridge only ammenities in the room. Good food in the restuarant. Parking can be a problem. EXCELLENT STAFF- very personable and they promptly responded to a rowdy guest complaint. Hotel is NON-Smoking anywhere inside. A fair value for the money.

Great place to GET AWAY and relax

We live in Kailua Kona on the other side of the island. And enjoy getting away to relax every now and again. Although the rooms are a little small, over all they are clean and neat. The staff is very cordial. Parking is a hastle and takes a bit of imagination, but can be done. They are across from whats known as the "ice ponds" a freezing mix of fresh and salt water. And across the street from a wonderful restuarant called HARRINTONS. They have the best drinks, calamari, escargot and chicken marsala. And within walking distance to your room so no need to drive. They are also located central so theres a really nice botanical park up the street, Around the corner is a heritage park. couple of miles to shopping the zoo and other great restaurants. If your not in the room all that much, Its perfect!!!

Ok place but not fancy

We stayed at this hotel for one night after visiting Volcanoes National Park and were flying out early in the morning so location close to the airport was important to us. The pool was closed when we got there - appeared to be undergoing some maintenance? Not really sure what the story was on that. The parking situation is a bit of a challenge as they don't have much of a parking lot. Fortunately we were able to find a spot on the street right across from the entrance so we got lucky. The room seemed reasonably clean but the walls were incredibly thin. Every time someone walked past our door during the night we could hear their conversation as if they were inside the room. At some point during the night someone tried to enter our room (were they lost??). Hotel staff was friendly at check in and check out and seemed happy to help. We walked down the street to another restaurant for dinner so can't say anything about the on-site restaurant. There is a nice parade of banyan trees down the street which makes for a pretty walk. The price was reasonable for the location - not somewhere I would have wanted to stay for a long time but after reading some of the prior reviews of this place, we were not sure what to expect. We didnt see any bugs or substantial dirt. The room was a bit dated but functional. I'd have no problem staying here again.
