Room not serviced

I was there with my son for a football weekend. Arrived the day before. On game day, we were out of the room before noon and didn't return until after 11 p.m. During that time, the room was not cleaned or serviced. Beds were unmade, everything just as we had left it 11 hours earlier. It was too late and we were too tired to call about it. Next morning, when we checked out, I mentioned this and said that I should be entitled for some refund because servicing and cleaning should be part of the price paid. I was told by the young woman at the desk that it was "impossible" to refund any of the price because I had prepaid my online travel websitety and there was no way for them to refund any of that money. I said surely there must be some way to give me a refund, to which she responded, "it is impossible, have a nice day". Otherwise the room and hotel were OK, but I wouldn't stay there again because of this attitude. Obviously it is possible, somehow, to give a refund. They could have sent me a check.
