A Gem in the Heart of Santa Monica

The Ambrose is a gem in the heart of Santa Monica. The staff was helpful and attentive. A lovely continental breakfast featuring fresh fruit, Starbucks coffee, and incredible bakery is included in the price. Also included is underground parking which is well-lit and a wonderful bargain given the complete lack of parking in Santa Monica. We paid a little bit extra for the "premier" level room with a balcony. The room was a good size with queen beds, very tall ceilings, a nice desk area, and a TV/Wardrobe unit which contained plenty of hanging space, a DVD player, and surround-sound type speakers. The mattresses were a bit saggy and could stand replacing, but they were tolerable, and being queen size was a definite plus. The bathroom was a nice size with plenty of counter space and a wide, sliding pocket door which did not take away floor space. The shower was good with reasonable water pressure. An iron, ironing board, and wall safe were available in a small closet. Overall, our family of 4 was very comfortable, once we got extra towels (the room was set up for 2 people). The only real issue was street noise at night with lots of traffic and some sirens; since we brought our own white noise maker we didn't have a problem but light sleepers might find this difficult. Also families with young children will want to watch out for the minibar since several of the snack items, which are quite overpriced as one might expect, are sitting right out on the counter where they could easily be mistaken for freebies. In summary, we would definitely stay at the Ambrose again next time we are in Santa Monica.

Great Place to Stay

We thought this was great place to stay. Very clean. Easy parking underground. We thought we would be walking distance to the Ocean, but it was 20 blocks, but it worked out ok. Their continental breakfast was fantastic with a fruit bowl of HUGE black berries, rasberries and strawberries and large delicious types of breakfast rolls. Just a bit pricey for a hotel with no pool and that far from the ocean. You've got to visit the Promonade on 3rd Avenue for shopping. Easy to get on Pacific Hwy north to visit Malibu or Santa Barbara or just for a drive.
