Disappointing experience in a good fancy hotel

This was a Christmas visit to family; more like a business stay as far as the hotel was concerned. Arrangements made through Online Travel Website were honored contractually by the hotel, but with obvious lack of enthusiasm. The first room they assigned us to was a handicapped room; front desk somehow didn't know that. Handicapped rooms have no decor, a low-mounted closet rods, huge bathroom that consumes a larger than usual proportion of the room's square footage, etc. Front desk response to our complaint was, "Well, it's a non-smoking king like you asked for." They did give us another room, which was a basic hotel room with ordinary business desk (pay extra for internet in your room) and very comfortable mattress (pillow top, soft surface, excellent support for an average weight couple, good isolation from sleepmate's movements). By comparison, a much less expensive booking at the same hotel through hotwire.com 2 years ago yielded a larger, pleasanter room and no attitude from the front desk.
Cleanliness and general maintenance of the room and public areas was excellent.
Self-parking across the street was easy, convenient and $13/day. I had quick, free access to the business center (Christmas night) to access my airline, check in and print our boarding passes. Internet usage appears to be free there. We didn't ask for any other hotel services, so can't evaluate them.
Very Nice, Highly Recommend

I would recommend this hotel because of it's close proximity to the Convention Center, bars, other hotels, and restaurants. It was a little pricey but it's well worth the money.
Friends' Wedding Reception in Sac

The one-way streets in Downtown Sac can be confusing for the first-time visitor, although it is on a grid. We arrived at the hotel just to drop off our things and pick up the keys. The valets let us keep the car out front while we ran in, which was nice. We opted for parking on our own rather than paying the $21 but I'm not sure how safe the neighborhood really is after hours (I've heard mixed reactions from our local friends). We were there on a Sat. into Sun. (The meters are free on Sundays.) The room itself was typical: two double beds (not queen), chair, desk, TV, phone (even local, guest services-directed calls are charged it turns out). The one feature I loved about it was the cushioned window seat. The one feature I hated about it was the bathroom didn't seem to have a fan (or that great of HVAC). Check-out didn't work on the TV system so I had to go downstairs and hand back the keys the old-fashioned way.
This hotel is centrally located to the action of Sacramento, but not really close on either end. It seemed a bit far from Old Town and was still a short cab ride (which you should have the valets get for you; don't call guest services) to restaurants and the interesting part of downtown. (Look for the guy who plays music in his blue converted truck!)

We got the ROMANCE PACKAGE which stated upon arrival that we would have a cheese tray and a bottle of wine waiting for us. We called ahead to let them know we'd be late. We arrived and no one knew what we where talking about. On the internet ad it said a cheese tray and wine would be waiting for us in our CLUB room upon arrival. Also included in the ROMANCE PACKAGE: a bottle of champagne and either chocolate or fruit. Also breakfast for two the next day, and by staying on the club room floor access to the CLUB room w/ appetizers and drinks ($ *...! more then the bar downstairs..nice touch). I called room service when we arrived, talked to the front desk and no one had a clue what I was talking about. Room service said they didn't know what I was talking about either or even what the internet says about your ROMANCE PACKAGE and that their amenities change daily. After complaining a cheese tray came after a hour wait. We did get champagne and chocolate earlier but I wanted this to be a surprise to my partner and upon arrival no one tried to understand what I was talking about and all where unaware of any ROMANCE PACKAGE. I got so upset I cried. It was a long travel and all we needed was a little comfort that I thought we had paid for. After that long 6 hour drive I was treated with incompetence and treated like a fool. The CLUB room had alot to be desired....! vegetables were wilted and stale and old cheese was sweating and scarce (just bits and leftovers) all cookies were gone on the crumb filled tray and hot appetizers were not very appetizing to look at.

From the minute you pull up to the valet parking ($21 per night) to the minute they re-load your baggage this hotel is all about service. It is comfortable and very well located. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful on our visit
