Married at the Resort

  • December 6, 2006

We got married at The Island Seas Resort. We stayed there for a total of 2 weeks. It was a truely wonderful, relaxing family vacation. Every single thing went wonderful, people were very helpful. The beach was beautiful, clean and not crowded. The restaurant was great, not expensive for being in a resort. ALL of the employees were wonderful, always smiling and being very pleasant. The rooms were clean, upkept and could not have asked for anything else. Being there 2 weeks was paradise. We just didnt want to leave. Want to and will return for our 5th anniversary.

I really did like this resort, but have been to nicer on the island. I understand that the snippiness can be just the way a person is made up, but we got "the attitude" one time too many for my comfort. I really did not appreciate the maid service entering our apartment in the evening just to leave a flyer for the next day's event at the Resort. On several nights, while in the living room talking, we heard a knock on the doorThe door was locked

The staff is excellent. Everyone was extremely friendly. The rooms were very well polished and so was the surrounding areas. However, they call themselves a resort and there is hardly anything to do. One has to go out of the "resort" to have real entertainment; such as disco, water activities, etc... Also, they only have one restaurant on premisys and is outdoor. The pool is right next to the restaurant, and one is not allowed in w/o shirt. Which doesnt make sense to me??? Excellent for families, not for singles

Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:
The one-bedroom unit is a very nice size with a full kitchen. It has a pull-out couch in the living room area. The resort is wonderful with giving you extra towels--many times without even requesting them. The beach is beautiful, and you can rent jet skis there. The marina is across the street and has snorkeling, a glass-bottom boat, and parasailing available. There are ladies who ask you to buy necklaces if you want your hair braided daily, but if you tell them no, they won't continue to bother you. There is a conch stand to the left of the beach, and it's definitely an interesting experience. I would recommend trying it.

Best Things About the Resort:
The Island Seas Resort is right on the ocean; you can walk out your front door and be on the beach in no time!

Resort Experience:
I read some mixed reviews of this resort, and I have a few myself, but all in all, this is a place that I can certainly recommend to anyone. The location is ideal as far as I am concerned in regards to the island of Freeport. It is far enough away from the "main" resort area (Lucaya Beach), yet close enough that it only takes a short cab ride to enjoy all the activities that go on there. The fact that the beach is right outside your door is something that I really liked. A good amount of resorts in the Freeport area are built around the back bays and therefore have no beaches; this is a real turnoff in my opinion.

Things to look out for:
1. The cost of food--it is more expensive than most of the U.S., so BE PREPARED FOR IT! I think bottled water is more expensive here than rum!
2. We found most of the cab drivers to be entertaining and well worth the modest fees they charged to drive us around (I couldn't rationalize the cost of renting a car here). Figure to spend around twenty dollars a day to use the cab service.
3. Like most of the Bahamas, the attitude is laid-back; so as far as service goes, it may not be what you're used to, but they get the job done... EVENTUALLY.
4. The bartenders were great at this resort; like the food service, they ran out of a lot of things but always had something.
5. The food was good enough for lunch, but plan on cooking in or going out to dinners. The beach is great, except for a few peddlers. MAKE SURE YOU VISIT ZONK'S--great food, not the most sanitary, but a great experience!
6. If Mitch is still there, make friends with him; he took us to a local fish fry and is a great guy who will be more than willing to drive you around most nights.
7. There are plenty of activities to sign up for and do at this resort--take advantage of them.
8. We stayed in the (older) section of the resort on the beach side, and this is where you want to be--not across the street in the (new) section. This only makes a dramatic difference if you have a beachfront unit, however, and otherwise it really is not that big of a deal.
