Home for the Holidays

We wanted to spend Christmas as a family. Our daughter's job required her to be on call, so coming home wasn't an option. With one son stationed at Fort Gordon, GA and another living in CA, the best option was to go to Frisco so we could be together. I arranged the details; with a few requests-most important was a quiet room. This was to be one of our last Christmas? together in a long time and I wanted it to be special. In a few months, our soldier will be deployed overseas and the regiments of Basic and AIT have left him exhausted. I explained he just wanted a bowl of Coco Puffs and to sleep past 4:30am, so the room needed a fridge for milk and not close to busy streets. The warm welcome was unbelievable. When the kids arrived, there in the room sat a welcome basket with all kinds of goodies, Coco Puffs, milk, chocolate milk, bananas, popcorn, cookies with a card that read ?There Is No Place Like Home?. What an unexpected surprise, talk about touching a mother?s heart. The fridge was stocked with soda and no detail was sparred in getting the room ready for us. The hotel was undergoing reconstruction but we never heard a word. The room was huge; enough room for the five of us, loads of towels, even plenty of space for a 5? Christmas tree! We had a wonderful time and the staff was more than outstanding. Our stay will be a cherished reminder of the wonderful time we spent together and the best part is that each of our kids took a little piece of ?home? with them when we all said goodbye. Thank you Lee Rolfe and the amazing staff for making this a truly treasured memory.

Were happy with our choice

Hotel staff is wonderful. Location is so,so as many homeless (and harmless) in the area. If you're not used to this and afraid o fyour shadow, it's not the area for you. Trolley on Market Street to Fisherman's wharf is only 1 block away ($1.50) and Union Square/Moscone Convention Center about 4 blocks away... nice little walk! We were happy with its location compared to the prices of the hotels in the area during the Oracle conference. Pool is nice and heated with lounge chairs, private saunas available (with shower) and free. Rooms are on the small side. Free DSL Internet hook-up in rooms, comfy bed and very clean rooms. The only thing we didn't like was that there is no A/C (fan only). I would not stay there in the middle of a hot summer. It was 65 outside and we had the window wide opened with the fan on all night!.... Psst... here's a cute one...... when we arrived, we asked if we had a smoking room. The answer: "it's optional". Wondering what that meant, she replied that we could smoke in the room only if we wanted to. ;-) We sure had a good laugh as we had never heard of a room becoming a smoking room only when you smoked in it.. hehehe!

OK, but probably not again

1 block from BART and MUNI if you don't mind being close to homeless people shouting on the streets and no decent food nearby. The outisde elevator closes after 9 pm and there are 2 ice machines for the entire place, so god help you if you want to cool down your drink at night. This drove me nuts! The staff is extremely courteous and helpful in getting around. There is NO AIR CONDITIONING and the windows don't open, so I had to have my door open to get some fresh air for awhile. The pool is only 4 foot deep but is very clean and great for kids. But then again it's amazing that it's over a carport! It was refreshing. There is no real view from the windows out toward the street, and not sure I'd want one. I had a view of the courtyard with fountains, which was very pleasant. I felt very safe here. I was unaware of any shuttle service of any kind. I think there is none. ?????? Most of the rooms are non-smoking, so it was great to have a room that didn't stink. Having a bright pink huge building was very helpful for having friends find me. I think this would be a good hotel for an overnight stay, I did 3 nights and tho pleasant enough, there are simply too many other more desirable hotels in the same price range closer to Union Square and other places. I

Dissapointed

The room had a thick smell (although it was a non-smoking one) and did not feel very clean either. Some of bathroom stuff was pretty rusty. Plus this hotel is located in the area where you do not want to walk on the street after 9-10pm.

Misled

Your "blub" on the internet said "Free Parking", "Free Shuttle to Union Square" for the Best Western Hotel Americana. They had neither. We had to argue to get the free parking. We had to walk to Union Square in a not so nice neighborhood. These two things ceased to exist as of May 1st. We booked with you May 15th!!!!!!!
