Description: The hotel is located near to the State Capitol. It is basically across L Street and a number of rooms directly face the State Capitol. The Hyatt is also a 5-minute walk to the IMAX theater and Sheraton Grand, which is the other major hotel downtown. The downside, however, is the lack of any quality restaurants for dinner as the downtown area is basically dead after 5pm. There are some restaurants on Broadway, so you will either need a rental car or take a taxi. Speaking of rental cars, self parking is $12 per night with in-and-out privileges.
It has one of the better front desk staff I have seen from work-related travels. They are professional and helpful and will generally recognize you after a few stays.
The rooms are quite spacious and generally well appointed. However, I found the lighting to be a bit dark, which is further accentuated by the dark carpets.
If you have access to the Regency Lounge, it serves some decent hors d'Oeuvres. In fact, I know some people who make a dinner out of that.
There is an outdoor pool in the lobby level, which can be cold sometimes. The fitness center is located on the street level, which can be inconvenient as you have to leave the hotel (take the parking garage shortcut) to get there.
Tips:
The Regency Lounge has a desktop with free Internet access.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a frequent guest at the hotel. He usually stays at the Governor suite which occupies an entire floor. You might happen to see him in the lobby.
Because Sacramento is a small city, there are only two major hotels in the downtown area: Hyatt and Sheraton Grand. Chances are very high that you will see NBA players in either hotels during the season. Denver Nuggets seems to prefer the Hyatt.
