Sorta Really Good, Sorta Really Bad

  • July 14, 2008
  • Rated 2 of 5 by oldscratch from New York, New York
I recently stayed at at the Sofitel Philadelphia for a wedding and really enjoyed both the layout of the room and the comfort of the bed. (Really, the bed was incredibly comfortable.) I did have two complaints, though. First, the room wasn't ready when I arrived, so I asked them to hold onto my bag. When I returned to check-in and pick up the bag, they had not placed it in a secure location. Instead, they just added it to a big pile of luggage in the lobby and then asked me to find it. Second, when I checked out, the room was $20 more than the price they had quoted me on the phone.

I love Sofitel

  • July 2, 2008

I didn't expect to be able to check in at 6 AM, and I couldn't; however, the staff were still very accomodating. I had no battery left in my cell or laptop and they let me leave both in a corner of the office to charge for the whole day. The room was your typical excellent Sofitel experience; the feather bed was so luxurious, I tried to sneak it home, but it wouldn't fit in my carry on. If I had one gripe, it is that the cleaning staff are too good. I like to be able to retain my towels and toiletries from one day to the next, as I actually believe the little cards in other hotels that say they're being good for the environment (not just saving money). The cleaners did, however, read the little note I left for them on morning two.

Great hotel in wonderful location

Since we have family and friends in the Philadelphia area, we are often down visiting. We love the Sofitel as it is reasonably priced for a luxury hotel, and it has a great location. If you are first-time visitors to Philadelphia, you will find the location to be right in the center of many of the attractions you are likely to want to visit - from Rittenhouse Sq to the fabulous museums to the historic sites. The hotel staff is friendly, and the rooms are nice-sized with luxurious beds and bathrooms. All in all, a great hotel.

Absolutely Fantastic

We wanted to stay in a comfortable place with outstanding service and a clean bed we could fall into like a cloud. We got both of these things & more. From the valet (courteous!) to bar (delish) to room service (quick): everything was perfect. The bed was a dream--so much so, we ordered the featherbed for home. Can't say enough wonderful things. Will try the Sofitel NYC and will be back to Philadelphia for sure. We're picky--and were pleased with everything. Stay here for a quiet, clean, comfortable, luxurious, & affordable city's night!

Quiet Hotel Right in the Middle of Everything

  • May 5, 2008
  • Rated 5 of 5 by Kevinmcc from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Great hotel for those who want to spend an extra dollar and want to get a real feeling for the city. The hotel is just a couple blocks from a nice 4 square block park called Rittenhouse Square that is always bustling with activity be it winter or the summer. There are excellent restaurants and bars all around the park. Otherwise the hotel is located on one of the smaller streets between Walnut and Chestnut so you won't be up all night listening to the city nightlife. Any direction you go will take you into the heart of the city. Only 5 blocks from the Franklin Insititue.

The hotel itself is ultra comfortable. Great lounge next to the lobby. Flat screen televisions in each of the rooms. French doors leading into the bathrooms. When we were looking for wine glasses for our bottle of wine there was someone at the door in minutes.

Really enjoyed our stay. Helped us enjoy the city and see so much without even having to get in a cab until the third day we were there.
