Halloween weekend at Princess Kaiulani

The chief reason to stay at this hotel is its location in the center of everything and at a reasonable cost per night. The Sheraton beds are comfortable and the staff is cheerful. The noise level however is a problem, especially at nights and during Halloween when partying at the International Marketplace next door with boom boxes and drums went on until 330 in the morning. I had a room on 20th floor which had a view of the ocean through hotels across the street. You need to be at least on the 25th floor to get an open view. Bring your ear plugs for noise and use the major chain restaurants up the street as the dining is limited in the hotel and there is no room service. The pool offers beach towells and beach chairs if requested which are great for using the beaches of the Starwoods properties across the street, which will allow you to charge food, drinks, and use beach loungers with your key and room identification card. This is my second time staying at this hotel and it is recommendable for short stay, but as all reviews indicate, it has noise problem from International Market Place next door, needs refurbishment, has a lot of wasted space in lobby area which appears to be used for buffet spill over and not available for lobby use. However, again you can use the lobby of the Moana across the street and enjoy the entertainment in its Banyan Court. The hotel also has an excellent Polynesian show "Creation" and a back entrance next to International Market Place which closes at 1030 at night as well as free computer use when you can find one available.

Decent Hotel with a Great Location

The "PK" (the name the locals call the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotel) is a good hotel with an excellent location in the heart of Waikiki. It is literally about 50 yards away from the famed Waikiki Beach, and right on Kalakaua Avenue, which has all of the main shops, restaurants, and street performers in Waikiki. We stayed for 8 nights in the taller tower on the side facing Waikiki Beach and the view was pretty amazing (I recommend getting a room in the taller tower on the side facing Waikiki Beach on the 12th floor or above for the best views). The hotel is an older hotel so don't expect an ultra-modern hotel like a Gansevoort or W, but they have done a good job of keeping it clean, and the hotel has most of the amenities that you would want (including a well equipped gym). The staff working the front desk were very friendly, and the housekeeping staff was very good about stopping by about every other day (in addition to the daily room cleaning) to make sure things were okay. The only negatives would be the parking situation and the coffee service we received on one day. Finding a parking spot on weekdays is fine, but during the weekend, if you pull in to the garage after 7 PM, good luck finding a parking spot. As for the coffee service, we noticed what looked like a fruit fly in the coffee that was brought to us via room service. Needless to say, we didn?t order any coffee after that. But all in all, we had a good experience with the hotel and would stay there again.

Great location, great price

Can't ask for a better location for the money. The beach is across the road (and through the lobby of the Sheraton Mona Surfrider). Surf lessons, surf boards and other beach equipment available on the beach. If you like shopping you are in the middle of high-end stores and next door the the lower cost International Market Place. The hotel is old (built in 1955), but kept in good shape. We got a "standard room" at $129 a night and found it cramped with a view of the parking garage. We went down to the front desk to get a better room. For eah additional $20 / night you can upgrade one "level". We paid an extra $20 / night and got a room on the sixth floor overlooking the pool and courtyard. Larger room and nicer room furniture. Plus if you pay for a room upgrade you get free Internet, but in-room wireless Internet is only available in the big tower. If you are not in that tower you must use wireless in the lobby or one of the hotel-provided PCs also in the lobby. Please note that rooms near the pool will hear nightly entertainment from the hotel's entertainers while they perform near the pool. Food in the hotel is expensive - $23 for the lunch buffet by the pool and the dinner buffet will set you back $33. We had a great time and would stay here again. If you want to be in the heart of everything going on in Waikiki then this hotel is great.

We have stayed at this property 4 times over the years but this is the first time we decided to return after several years of staying at other places. We had two rooms and they both had mold growing in the shower and the shower head would never pass a health inspection. The rooms just smelled. This property has go downhill. Not worth the money....
