The Worst Ever

This motel does not live up to the high standards you come to expect from a Days Inn. To begin, the check-in process was tedious, involved changing rooms due to incorrect bed situation and three key exchanges to get the right one. The room was not well-vented, so everything was damp for the entire stay (towels, swimsuits, linens, the tops of furniture). No fan/vent in the bathroom for shower time. The beds are very low and uncomfortable. A very low quality mattress with sheets that do not fit the bed. The sheets and mattress cover constantly were coming off the bed.
While the location is not far from Bar Harbor, you most certainly will need a car. The motel is located on the busiest road on Mt. Desert Island, so there is no walking along the street to town. Also, there is a ton of traffic and lots of traffic noise throughout the night.
Speaking of noise, the motel is very noisy. It is easy to hear the noise from neighboring rooms, whether the television or conversations. The doors do not fit the frames correctly and so need to be slammed in order to latch. Finally, the motel allows pets, which meant our neighbor had a dog that barked loudly any time it heard any noise (which was often!).
When addressing concerns with the front desk, the results were less than optimal. In fact, it seemed as though the whole place was being run by teenagers. They were the front desk staff as well as the housekeeping crew.
All in all...please don't stay here. If I had read the reviews, I would have never wasted our time and money. Days Inn should revoke this location. It is truly awful.

Dont believe the lies in their advertisement- this is not a watefront hotel - it is on the wrong side of Route 3. Route 3 is the busiest road on the island. The noise from cars is non-stop - your windows are only about 30 feet from road, adn sound insulation is non-existent. Also- you cant really see the water - the hotel is directly across the road from the huge Cat Ferry terminal - thats all you see. Moldy, smelly rooms, lazy service. A tourist trap.... There are dozens of hotels that are better and cheaper. Dont be fooled by the Days Inn logo - this is just a cheap old roadside mitel.

My friend and I were traveling to Bar Harbor and stayed most nights at the Highbrook Motel -- much better & much cheaper. Unfortunately, they were booked for the night we planned to arrive, so we stayed at the Days Inn. Thank God it was only for one night. The A/C didn't work, the room smelled, and it wasn't very clean. We actually slept with the lights on in fear of what might come crawling out during the night! Don't stay here. Go to the Highbrook instead!

I like this hotel for the value for money. It takes 10 - 15 minutes from the hotel to a ranger-led program in Acadia, which we participated frequently. The problem I had was that wireless internet did not work for me. I suspect they only support 802.11a, and not 802.11b/g. I ended up spending about $7 on an Internet cafe in town to access mail, which was not too bad, but certainly unexpected given that it is advertised.
