Great Hotel, Highly Recommended

This hotel was great! The lobby was welcoming when we walked in, and the front desk attendant was very friendly. The overall appearance of the hotel was great, and they even had bellhop service. There was a new addition to the hotel under construction, and they were transforming their outdoor pool to an indoor pool, but it didn't bother us. The hotel had a TGI Friday's in the hotel, which delivered to the room, and they also had other great room service. Although the price was somewhat high, the amenities were great, and it was a great experience for everyone.

Not up to standards

Not what I expected from a Doubletree and absolutely not what I expected for the price. This is a converted Quality or Sleep Hotel that has been re-branded as a Doubletree. The rooms are nice but the sound proofing is terrible. You can hear every noise in the hallways - even normal, quiet conversations. We had a connecting room and could hear everything that the people next door said, heard the hair dryers blasting, etc. So much for a chance to sleep past 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday! Look for a lower priced hotel close by and you will get what you pay for vs paying for a Double tree and getting taken. We won't be fooled again!

Not up to Doubletree standards

Let me start by saying that I have stayed at many Doubletree Hotels throughout the country. I stay at Doubletree Hotels because I usually can count on a convenient location, nicely appointed room, fantastic service and great food. The staff was very nice, but the only other similarities with other Doubletree Hotels were the price, warm cookies and linens on our bed. The rooms were okay, certainly nothing spectacular. The hotel "restaurant" was a TGI Fridays, which was great for grabbing a quick drink with our friends before we went out, but hardly what I would expect for the Doubletree! Our "Dream Package" was $200 and that included a breakfast buffet at TGI Fridays-which was cold, underserviced and just not very good. Quite frankly, I would have rather gone to McDonalds down the street given the quality of the food. Last weekend I had the same package at a different Doubletree (for less money!) and we had a spectacular breakfast buffet spread with white linens on our table, live omelet station, top notch food and just a wonderful experience. The bottom line is that I just don't think this hotel should carry the name Doubletree. I think guests expect a little more when they see the name Doubletree and this hotel just does not hold up to that standard. I was really disappointed with this stay.

Doubletree Biltmore

As we read in the hotel literature, this hotel is rated as one of the top Doubletree hotels. We did not agree. While the hotel was clean and well-kept, it lacked the character we find at other Doubletrees. On one day of our stay, our room was not cleaned until 5pm; we had been out of the room since 9am. The reservation was made directly through the hotel only 4 days in advance, and they neglected to tell me that the pool would be closed on our arrival date for a private function. There is no breakfast through the hotel; we were not impressed with the breakfast meal at the TGI Fridays, which is adjacent to the hotel (although their lunch and dinners are always good). The front desk ran out of attraction tickets also. What they lacked in basics, they make up for in customer service. We received tips on restaurants, places to see, etc., from several different employees. I would not recommend going out of your way to stay at this location, but it is a nice base to visit Biltmore Estate and Biltmore Village.

Doubletree Hotel - Asheville

The Doubletree Hotel in Asheville is situated outside of downtown Asheville and literally a stone's throw away from the entrance to the Biltmore Estate. Hence, it would be a very good base for those planning on spending more time at the Estate than in the city itself.

The hotel itself was pretty standard in quality. My room had been refurbished relatively recently and was perfectly adequate in terms of comfort. Climate control was, however, a little antiquated and the only apparent way to get any sort of heat in the room was to turn the air vent to full power, thereby making it quite noisy. The overall design and decor of the hotel is quite unremarkable. Disappointingly, the only breakfast service was in an attached TGI Friday's restaurant and the food was of a pretty poor quality, albeit cheap.

It seems as if Asheville has a real shortage of "mid-range" accommodation - all I could see was a few budget chain hotels and then the very expensive resorts like the Biltmore. As such, this hotel seems to fill a niche market but I certainly would not recommend that anyone go out of their way to stay here.
