Description: It's a cruise ship from the thirties, bought by the city of Long Beach and has been brought down. It is now transformed into a tourist attraction for the city and a hotel. I can assure you that if you come you will get a childlike sense of excitement. What a huge boat.
Location
Everyone knows in Long Beach, where the hotel is. Situated on the outskirts of the town in the harbor. On the road, the route to the Queen Mary is signed posted nicely. You can not miss it.
It’s located on the 1126 Queens Highway in Long Beach (California).
Parking
For the large hotel is a car park where the guests park their cars. And of course there are places reserved handicapped. Parking is $ 15 for one day. You can use the valet service.
The entrance
You'll be greeted by a doorman who asks you if you're a hotel guest. Your suitcase taken by a bell boy. Then you go to an elevator and then walk over a footbridge to the ship itself. Actually, that moment is so beautiful. You see the various decks and the huge size of the ship. Then we come to a large marble reception. Everything is beautiful even in its original state. Flower carpets, old brown wooden walls. The reception desk is very professional and friendly staff. Here is the place to check in a professional manner. Then you look around and you see nice luxurious chairs where you sink deep into the large lounge. We get the electronic key and walk and walk ... Really !!!!, trough a huge hall to our room. I can now imagine that people can get lost in such a ship.
The room
The rooms are spread over two decks. There is an elevator. It is a large spacious room with a king-size bed. There is a desk. A large LCD screen for your TV. Wireless Internet connection. Coffee and tea making facilities. An armchair and a large bank like a small sitting room. A small reading table with some magazines. The experience is spacious and cozy. We had a double room including breakfast for $ 125, including taxes. Pricey, yes, but I say this from the bottom of my heart, well worth the money. The bathroom with bath and shower, sink and toilet are spacious and clean. And the design is still traditional in the thirties. Especially of course the round windows in your room. Another characteristic of the old ship. The shampoo and shower gel smells good. Again in the atmosphere of the luxury of the hotel. For example shampoo shea butter and jojoba.
There is air conditioning in the room, you can arrange yourself.
Restaurants
The restaurants (there are several) are the upper and middle decks. Breakfast was served in the restaurant on the middle deck. This too was very tidy. The breakfast you order a la carte. For eggs with bacon, you pay around $20 and $4 for a fruit juice. So I do not need to explain that the whole is rather pricey. Frankly I regret that no buffet is available. Too bad that there was probably some of the waiters were sick, because the operation went very slowly . While the evening at another restaurant there was an operation that had everything in order perfectly. But probably also because many guests were present who were not hotel guests. The menu presentation varies, from Italian and French cuisine to fish and meat dishes. Prices range from $ 20 to $ 38. You can calm a few days staying at this hotel and each time try a different restaurant.
Happy hour
Very special is that between 4 and 5 hours for the guests a happy hour organized. Instead of paying 5 dollar for a beer you pay half. Several bars on the ship have this happy hour.
Staff
I have only met friendly and helpful staff. All in a neat outfit. The staff exudes something like: we are proud and happy that we can work. They were helpful with everything. Too bad I did not see the captain!, But which appears only on special occasions, I have been told.
Hotel
There are 314 hotel rooms. The double rooms without breakfast costs $ 115. This will still load at. Look on the Internet because sometimes there are special reduced rates. I've also done, so I come out on this special price. Normally you pay between 155 and $ 200. Payment is possible in several ways, of course, cash and several credit / debit cards.
facilities
In the hotel all facilities that are faced with a cruise ship, a cinema, to sports to shopping. In the hotel there are good facilities for the disabled.
The hotel is in the old style cruise scip. This has been a fun experience.
Like all hotels in California, this hotel is non smoking.
Spa facilities are also there. There is a massage room and a beauty salon.
There are barbers on board or souvenir shops. Actually it is a city in miniature.
There is even a chapel there. This is used for weddings. There is a lot of meeting room.
Conclusion
I like to come back. It is an oasis in the busy U.S. Luxury and excellent care. It is a hotel to recommend. The prices are reasonable for the quality you get. You always pay for quality. And quality and luxury can be found here enough. I highly recommend this hotel. The rooms are fine. But what makes the hotel so great is the fact that it was a real cruise ship.
