Old and dirty but good for San Clemente

I expect more from a Holiday Inn. The rooms were old with very dirty carpets. I expect a better room in a business traveler type hotel that is off the beach.

The ocean view is from 2 or 3 blocks away and viewed over a significant urban sprawl.

We stayed here because we lived in the vicinity years ago and had many favorite places to visit. We arrived early and were accomodated promplty. Staff was very friendly, room was exceptionally clean, and roomy. we had an oceanview with a balcony. very nice. worth the extra cost. TO sit out there evenings and look at the ocean and surroundings. Lovely place to visit and stay at this hotel. I would highly recommend it to any one. We always found a parking spot and were always greeted nicely.

The location to downtown San Clemete is the only reason to stay at this Holiday Inn. A few steps above the main street, the walk through a small courtyard is fabulous! Amenities are average (typical motel motif), but it is older and has major plumbing problems, for which plungers are frequently distributed. Pet-friendly and smoking rooms are available, but for nonsmoking-without-pet guests, the cleanliness seems sacrificed. It is a 10-minute walk to the beach through neighborhoods and a shopping street - I did this frequently, as I wanted to be in the room as little as possible.
