We stayed for 8 days at Homewood Suites in Del Mar in September and had the most wonderful experience! The rooms were impeccable, the staff was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. The best part for us was the full buffet breakfast and the suppers Monday through Thursday evenings :) The breakfast was delicious with so many options to choose from--everything from eggs and bacon to cups of yogurt and cereal--every morning!! Also, with 2 little ones, we loved not having to find a restaurant Mon-Thurs evenings. The suppers were simple, but delicious! (We especially enjoyed the Thursday barbeque.) We were not the only ones impressed with the meals at this hotel. Other guests mentioned to us how delighted they were with the meals.
Also, the hotel was conveniently close to everything. When not at the main attractions in San Diego, we really enjoyed the smaller, more relaxing atmospheres of Del Mar and La Jolla which are very close to the hotel.
We could not recommend this hotel highly enough. We will definitely stay again as we plan on being in San Diego in the future.

We just loved this place, it is a super family hotel. San Diego is lovely but expensive and this hotel was reasonably priced for what it offered. The staff was very helpful from check in through-out our stay. The suite was nice sized, with a full refrigerator, microwave and small stove and fully stocked with cookware, utensils. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, the seperate room with its own TV important for families who have little kids to get to sleep early. The location is right off the highway and an easy drive to all. The pool is not too big but heated and secure and my son loved it. the breakfast was nice although crowded, there was a line for the make it yourself waffles and such but its a very nice offering with hot dishes such as eggs and sausage - which changed every day as well as the usual muffins, juices, cereals. The weekday welcome home reception is fabulous, you are out all day and come home beat and there is a nice meal, again a full hot meal, different every day, waiting, not top shelf quality of course but very familly friendly fare and good when you don't want to take the kids out late and pay a fortune for a meal they won't eat much of. But it does come with beer and wine so good wind down for the folks too!! Overall its a very relaxing place to stay and I would not only stay here again but will seek this brand out at other destinations.

This hotel had a good quiet location just off of I-5. The staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeepers and room maitenance people spoke little or no english. (a pet peeve of mine) Our King Bed suite was split into two very small rooms. The bedroom portion left very little room to maneuver around in. The bed itself was comfortable and it sported six pillows plus two more in the closet. This was a nice touch since I like a lot of pillows. The smoke detector was located very close to the bathroom door and it was activated by steam coming from the shower. Make sure you keep the bathroom door closed during and after showering. The light in the bathroom itself was very dim so if reading on the toilet is a activity you engage in while on the toilet you'll be dissapointed. The vanity was very small and barely had enough room for me and my wife's toiletries. The two 27" TVs were a nice touch and they had 3 ESPN channels. There were no premium cable channels such as HBO or Showtime but they did have pay per view movies. They also lacked channels like Discovery, TLC, A & E, Food Network, etc., etc. The kitchen was small but nice. They did provide a fair amount of kitchenware. The refrigerator was nice to keep drinks and restaurant leftovers in. The kitchen would be adequate to prepare small meals if you feel the need. I read in several reviews that the daily complimentary breakfast was quite good but I didn't find that to be the case. You can make your own waffles but they were just OK. Too many families with kids for our tastes.

My husband and 2 kids stayed at the Homewood Suites in July and had a wonderful stay. Everything was great- from the rooms, to the free breakfast, to the personable staff.
The hotel is in more of a residential area, but it was nice and quiet for us. It was about 20 minutes away from SeaWorld, the zoo, Wild Animal Park, and some great shopping at the Carlsbad outlets. The hotel is only 10 minutes away from the Del Mar fair so the hotel staff recommended that we plan a day there. It was great. The kids had a blast, and the fair was right next to the ocean- nothing like riding the ferris wheel and watching the sunset right over the ocean.
The room was comfortable with amazing beds and was perfect for our family. We had a one bedroom suite so it was great to be able to close the door when the kids had to take a nap.
We were surprised the variety we had at breakfast, with eggs, bacon, toast, waffles. It was more than we expected and FREE, which makes a huge difference when traveling with the family on vacation. The manager even came around and gave my kids little rubber ducks to play with while they were having breakfast! They brought those everywhere!
During the week we stopped by for dinner which, again, was great for the family and helped us save on food. They even let us use the bbq grills by the pool.
Our stay was wonderful, all of the staff incredibly helpful, and the rooms great. We will definiltey stay here again next year!
