Weekend away

  • January 2, 2009

My husband and I came for a weekend away...The room was wonderful for the money and the hotel staff was wonderful...The only bad thing was the party going on in the next room. We would most definitely stay here again and have already made plans to do so. The room had such a 'homey' feel to it.

Are you kidding?

I'm not so much a clean freak ~ nor am I prone to only staying in 5-star properties ~ but you have to be kidding me with this one. The "kitchen" floor was dirty and stained. The entrance was filthy ~ would never have walked on the tile in my bare feet. The carpet was not only worn, but had the look that it was badly (badly) in need of a cleaning. The kitchen sink is chipped and stained. The bathroom? Please. It has apparently been so long since the bathroom floor was cleaned that -cobwebs- have actually formed behind the door at the baseboard. We traveled in Germany earlier this year and became familiar with hotels not having "top" sheets on the bed. We just didn't know they did it in Omaha, too. The bed had only a bottom sheet and a duvet (comforter). The hot tub wasn't hot. Nope. No kidding. My first clue should have been when we entered the pool area to find little ones -swimming- in the water. A ten year old offered, "The pool is warmer ..." And I'm sure that it was. We really wanted just a quick, fun, weekend get-a-way. Omaha was beautiful. The hotel was a real, real disappointment. "Hawthorne" is a subsidiary of the Hyatt chain, so I figured it was more than worth a chance. The only thing "Hyatt" about this property is a pillow with the Hyatt tree logo.

Will stay again

The exterior of this property could use a face lift, a little paint, new decking and cleaning of the cob webs. The hotel staff was great! The rooms were clean and very spacious. Not your normal cramped hotel room. They offered free hot breakfeast, with many things to choose from as well as a cocktail hour in the evenings (m-th). My kids only requirement for a hotel is that it has a pool. The pool is not much but it did the trick!

When I got to this hotel I thought I was at a resort because there is different building to it. The front desk staff treated me like a queen when I got there. They had a full hot breakfast and an evening social that was the excellent!!!!!!! Then when I got to my room I was amazed on how much room we had. There was even a fireplace in the room and at night it was very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family and even pets too...

Great
