Not Great, Not terrible

My husband and I chose Holiday Inn Emerald Beach because of their pet policy. Unlimited pets (within reason I'm sure) for $20 was too good to turn away when we had 2 cats and 2 dogs. The staff was wonderful and accommodating, but the hotel was so-so. Not what I would consider a dive, it came off as being old and in serious need of renovations. The elevators shuddered when we were on them, and took forever. The bed in our room was amazing, the water pressure was terrible. It has a very well-kept beach out the back that is lit at night with a nice little beach bar. I'd recommend the hotel if you're traveling with pets, but otherwise I'd try to find one a little newer and not so beat down.

Love This Place

I have stayed here for the past six years every June when I travel for business. I started bringing my family along so they could enjoy it too. Some of the hotel is run down from use, but everything and everyone have always been top notch. The restaurant has a great breakfast buffet in the morning. The private strip of beach is wonderfully pleasant and the kids love the indoor swimming pool and play areas.

Avoid the Cabana Rooms

We stayed here for Beach 2 Bay May 2009. We had a room on the 1st floor of the Cabana with beach access right outside our back door. Sounds great, but be prepared, the walls are paper thin. We could hear the people next to us talking; knew what they were watching on TV. It was really bad when the people on either side of us and above us threw parties. We could even hear each time they opened the ice chest and fished in the ice for a new drink. Had to call hotel security twice, which I hate to do, but I have small children. Then I was nervous that my neighbors would retaliate. This is a great hotel if you are 21 and ready to party. This is a horrible hotel if you have kids and would like to go to sleep before midnight. Unfortunately for me, they threw the parties before the race, so I was not well rested for Beach to Bay. I ran well despite my lack of sleep. Do not stay here unless you bring earplugs and a sound machine to drown out the noise of your neighbors. People before us left trash in the dresser.

Worst Stay in Corpus to Date

My family and I visit Corpus 3 to 4 times through the Spring and Summer. We decided to try Emerald Beach because of location and the kid friendly activities the hotel has. We arrived on Friday and checked in. The front desk employees were friendly and helpful, but slow. The room was old but well kept. The beds were very comfortable. Friday night we ate in the Hotel Restaurant. Three hours later I was so sick I could not get out of bed. I spent the rest of our trip in bed and the bathroom. The kid areas were nice but over run by rude and obnoxious kids with no adult supervision. In one situation my wife finally threaten to get security to two ten year olds before they started fighting. Kids were also running up and down the halls till 1am Friday and Saturday night. Being a pet friendly hotel there was dog mess in the halls. It took about an hour before it was cleaned up. On that side I feel the owner of the dog should have been doing the cleaning. Overall I will never stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone. I did not feel it save for my children and getting food poising that took me 5 days to recover from. I am very disappointed with this Holiday Inn.

Strange

A woman that wasn't a guest took a bath (including shampooing her hair) in the hot tub in front of us! We contacted the front desk. The manager came out and asked the woman if she did and of course the woman denied it and the manager agreed with her that we were wrong (another couple witnessed the same thing). I then went to the front desk and asked that the issue be re-visited as the woman was still there amid all the soap bubbles in the hot tub. It was later found out that she wasn't a guest but there was nothing the hotel could do since the security guards do not come in before 9:00 pm. There was no explanation how they could promise to keep the area and my children safe from outside intruders. I was told I would hear from their executive managment to discuss the issue. I never did but I later received a check for $50 to help make up for my "unpleasant experience". We stay at this hotel because it has the Holidome which is a large indoor pool, play area, and hot tub the rooms open up to that is supposedly secured. We have three kids and like that they can play without us being right there. We keep our room door open up to the play area and can watch all the kids where ever they are. If this is the policy I will never stay in any of their hotels again.
