Lots of street NOISE

Be prepared for ALOT of traffic and street noise. It could have been our room location (the corner of geary and van ness), but it was very loud at all hours!!!!!
The pillows are so flimsy and small that we had to request several more. There were no towels in the bathroom on our first day and the front desk staff seemed "put-out" to have to send towels to our room.
Overall, the hotel would get an "okay" rating. Nothing more, but could be less.

I would like to let everyone reading this, that this is a Wonderful Hotel. Sure it's old but it was very nice. My Husband and I had to come up to San Francisco because he had to have some medical test run at the California Pacific Medical Center. The first day we were there we had dinner in the Hotel's Dining room. The food was very good. The Breakfast the next day was even better. Not too much to chose from but what was there was very good. We'll be coming back in a few month and we will definately stay there again.....Everyone was so very nice.....Thanks to all for such a pleasant stay...

The CHH was in the perfect location, near downtown and right next to Mel's Drive in and best of all, Tommys Sandwiches (a landmark) across the street. Great history too; The 49rs and Wilt Chamberlin used to stay here back in the day. This was the first hotel to have 7 foot beds. Way ahead of the marketing ploy of the "trying to be hip" overly "look at me" 20 something year olds hotels in basketball towns. Stay here, its the real deal. Easy parking and only $20 in and out priv. not your usual $40 in SF.
Good Location

This the second time that I've stayed here this year. The location is very convenient to public transportation to get just about anywhere in the city. Since it's away from downtown (Union Square and Market Street) you are rarely confronted with beggars. The rooms are fine and I especially appreciated the ability to book garage space for my car with the "parking package."
I was disappointed that the hotel did not offer "free" internet, something that I value a lot. Connectivity is available for a daily price.

I was there for a vacatikon, location is very good, rooms are not too clean, beds are bad, no pool. windows are low and can be dangerous to kids (my 3 year old sun could open it and was about to fall (no security screen and it opens out and has the AC under which makes kids easy to jump. Business center is with fee (old electric wall out lets which need a special adaptor) etc.......
If you have a car do NOT stay there, if you have abusiness in downtown and you want to be close, it is barely OK.
Over all is not an advise to stay there, staff are OK,
