You Really Must Stay Here...

I spend many days researching where we should stay on our trip to DC. I am so glad we stayed here. The hotel is smaller, personal, courteous and helpful staff, clean rooms, nice area. They have a hotel shuttle that brought us to and from the hotel and nearby metro station at no charge. The hotel has free covered parking. The breakfast is absolutely incredible. They have the usual cold cereal, toast, muffins, juices, coffee, tea, fresh fruit...melons, pineapple. Fresh waffles, scrambled eggs, potatoes, biscuits and sausage gravy, ham, bacon, grits, sausage. This was a wonderful, complete breakfast for the entire family, free every morning! It saved us a bundle during our 3 day stay. Also, the hotel has a fully stocked snack kitchen open 24 hours a day. It has EVERYTHING anyone in your family could want...A fridge full of pop, water, milk, juices, yogurt, pudding. Freezer with ice cream treats. Also, coffee, tea and cocoa. Instant soups and noodles and cereal. A dozen different varieties of granola bars, breakfast bars, trail mix, peanuts, popcorn, rice krispies treats, many varieties of cookies, and bags of doritos and sunchips etc. UNBELIEVABLE! We were traveling with 2 teens and this room saved us from having to bring snacks along. We actually only paid for one meal out each day because of the huge breakfast and the snack room. jWe would absolutely stay here again. The staff was friendly and helpful. 5 minutes from the metro, very near Ronald Reagan airport, and other restaurants. Near old town Aexandria and just a few blocks from the river. The room price for this hotel is competative with others like it, but when you factor in the free parking, big breakfast and snack room, I think it can't be beat!

Some things make up for others

THis hotel is a good value for the money, if you don't mind not having the best bed and the newest bath fixtures. The bed comfort is somewhat lacking if you're used to the pillow-tops at Hilton, but I have a bad back and survived it. The showers water temp was hard to control but could be accomplished with some patience. That said, the room was recently painted, carpet looked rather new, and room was outfitted nicely. The hotel shows its age in some ways, but makes up for it big time with a few accoutrements you normally don't get in this part of D.C. FREE Breakfast (hot and cold foods), FREE parking, FREE shuttle to the metro in Alexandria, and FREE snacks 24/7 in a kick-butt snack room that has everything from ice cream bars to soup, chips, granola, soda, coffee, and on and on. I had 3 kids on this trip and this made it very nice.

I stayed at the BW Old Colony Inn for a week and I thought it was great. It's about a mile's walk from King Street in Old Town Alexandria, and about the same (I think) from the closest Metro station. I enjoyed walking everywhere and felt safe, but the hotel shuttle will take you to any local locations. I used the shuttle a number of times. They have a full hot breakfast in the morning - eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, waffles, etc., and it was good food. They have a business center and fitness center with hot tub, free wireless internet in the rooms, and dvd players in the rooms with free rentals at the front desk. The best part, though, I think, is their 24 hour free snack room. Yes, free! How many hotels do that? They keep it stocked with bottled water and soda, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, soup, cookies, pudding, ice cream, granola bars, chips, nuts, etc. I understand they're planning to add sandwiches soon. This one amenity would keep me coming back to the hotel because I think it's such a nice touch. If I could change one thing, I'd suggest that they update the mattresses, because they're firmer than I'd have liked. Otherwise though, I thought everything was great.

not as advertised

Room rate was more than advertised. Hotel staff were rude. Sheets and towels were worn and thin. Room was very hot, I was advised to open a window. Will not return.

Good value for the price.

Good for business travelers or turists. Close to the Dulles Airport and Washington, DC. The room we had for one night was big, clean had DVD player and High Speed Internet. Excelent hot breakfast included. Free parking. We will book again.
