Best Things Nearby:
Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Great Smokey Mountains, Cherokee NC, and the caverns.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location, location, location! We did not participate in the activities at the resort. The children did use the pool and small game room area several times in the evenings. We were out doing things in the area every day.

Resort Experience:
If you are a RCI owner and you exchange for a one-bedroom unit, you will be put in a very small cramped unit that they have available for exchanges and rentals. The owners units were about double the size of the unit we had and were much nicer. You could not have two people in the kitchen at the same time, nor was there any space in the living/dining room if the sleeper sofa was opened. There was no TV in the bedroom. I felt shortchanged since this was crown royal resort.

Other that our disappointment in our accommodations we had a wonderful time as we spent every day out exploring and enjoying the area. We explored caverns, went horseback riding, hiked to waterfalls, visited the arts and crafts community, fished, saw snow, snow skied (we're from Florida), and just stayed very busy for the whole week we were there. This resort is in a great location for taking in this wonderful area.

I would recommend the end of March for this area as it is not crowded at all and the weather was great. We had bright sunny days with temperatures in the 70s and then it was cold for a few days and snowed and then warmed up again. Dollywood and several other attractions were not open yet, but we probably would not have had time to do everything even if they were.

Best Things Nearby:
The grocery store was next door. We were one mile from the start of the Arts and Crafts Community and only two miles from downtown Gatlinburg.

Best Things About the Resort:
Clean! They had family activities you could join each day and a very informative orientation on Monday.

Resort Experience:
We usually don't get one-bedroom units because of their size, but this one-bedroom was more than adequate for my husband, our 15-year-old son, and me. There was one large bathroom with an adjoining dressing room with a jacuzzi. The living room and dining room were very nice sizes. The kitchen was really small, but we didn't spend much time there, so that was ok.

My husband and our son spent a lot of time each day playing pool in rec room.

Cades Cove (Smokey Mountain National Park).

Best Things About the Resort:
Beautiful, quiet resort. Outdoor hot tub while it’s snowing.

Resort Experience:
Mountain Loft is a very nice resort and I would definitely recommend it. If you are a light sleeper, request a two-bedroom chalet since the one-bedroom has overhead noise from the adjoining unit.

Resort Experience:
Mountain Loft Resorts (resort ID 5947) was a huge disappointment after 10 years of wonderful exchanges.

We arrived in Gatlinburg at 2am after driving 4 hours longer than planned in a terrible winter storm. We fell into bed exhausted and didn’t "inspect" the unit until morning. At that point I was almost sorry I had slept in their bed. This was the dirtiest RCI facility I have ever been in. The décor was cute, with ruffled window valances and high ceilings. But the curtains were covered with a very heavy layer of dust and there were heavy clusters of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and in every corner. We found huge dust bunnies under the bed and someone else’s panties in the closet. There were candy wrappers and other trash in the washer/dryer closet. In the bathroom, there were growths of mold the size of my arm on the inside of the shower curtain. Pots and pans had crusted crud on them, and we had to wash all of the dishes before we were willing to use them.

Maintenance was as lacking as housekeeping. We were able to use the pool on the first night only, as the heater broke after that and was not fixed. There was a dangerous layer of heavy ice on the sidewalk, steps and front porch all week. The walls were so thin that we could hear coughs, sneezes, and lots of children constantly running and stomping in the unit next door. It was a long and not at all restful week. Gatlinburg is lovely, but don’t stay here.

"UNCOMFORTABLE FURNITURE" should be written on a large sign at the front gate. This was a timeshare exchange and we were in a townhouse in the older section of the facility. However, we visited the models in the new section and the beds were equally uncomfortable there. The sofas were marginally better. The chairs were uncomfortable. Folks, I'm telling you, this place was UNCOMFORTABLE. THE KITCHENS were extremely small, but functional. The unit had an excellent gas fireplace. THE VIEW is also quite nice, particularly if you are in the newer section of the facility, with vistas of mountain ranges in the distance. If you don't plan to spend much time in the room and will be away being a tourist most of the time, you can't beat the location. If a comfortable bed means a lot to you, you won't be happy.

The facility has townhouses, chalets, and villas. The townhouses and chalets are freestanding units. The villas are high-rises. The newest villas have the best furniture and the best views. THE EXERCISE ROOM was tiny and cramped and the treadmill was out of order. THE EMPLOYEES were friendly and helpful.

THE LOCATION is quite good, being on a major road that runs off of the main road through Gatlinburg. It is convenient to get into downtown Gatlinburg and there is a short cut nearby that bypasses downtown if you want to drive to Pigeon Forge. There is also a trolley stop nearby if you want to use the trolley rather than driving into Gatlinburg. Parking is extremely scarce in town, particularly at the height of the tourist season. The fall leaf-changing color time is the worst. It has taken me a half hour to drive from one end of town to the other, something that can be done in about eight minutes when the streets are clear. The main northern entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only a few miles away.
