Pleasantly Surprised

My wife and I booked a last-minute trip to Maui on a whim. I opted to book the Mahana rather than the other Aston properties in the area based on the reviews. I figured it would be worth the extra ~$* for a better hotel experience. When we got there, they had no record of our booking. Apparently, their booking folks don't work on the weekend, and so because I booked on a Saturday to arrive the next day, Sunday, their system hadn't been updated to include our reservation. After producing a print-out of my online travel website itinerary they were able to book us provisionally into a room until the booking agent could sort things out the next day, Monday. In the end, it turned out to be a non-issue, aside from the run-around at check-in.
The big gotcha was that the online travel website, takes children under 2 into account when booking the hotel room. We booked a studio, which has a maximum occupancy of 2, INCLUDING CHILDREN UNDER 2. When we arrived, we were informed that we would have to upgrade to a 1-bedroom at additional cost. Had I known that when booking the room, I could have gotten the upgrade for less than $* a night. On site, it was ~$* a night, but they offered to drop it to ~$60 a night. Not a huge issue, but annoying nonetheless.
The room was great, #117. Great kitchen with a full set of cooking and eating utensils. Great bathroom. The bed was so-so, and the pillows were terrible. We were on the ground floor, so we traded any shred of privacy for the ability to walk out the patio door onto the beach.
The hotel is in a great location, and overall we were happy.
Great location and amazing views! True beach front.

The location and views from the Mahana were execellent. Having the kitchen, washer/dryer and the BBQ's were great. It allowed for a toasted bagel and yogurt in the morning, a nice BBQ lunch when at the hotel. Staff was excellent and very helpful with local info that we requested. Only complaint if you could call it one was that our studio was a little out of date and could use a little remodel. That being said I would stay here again without hesitation.

We stayed in a studio style and it was perfect. The kitchenette really kept the food bills in check. Also every room is an ocean view, and ours was great. No on-site restaurant, but other hotels with them are within walking distance. For the price this was a great hotel. not extremely fancy, but it was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend.
