The Sherlock Holmes Hotel (a few numbers down from its literary namesake’s residence) is a lovely boutique hotel ideally situated in the centre of town, near Oxford Street.
It was renovated in 2001, and the hotel is charming and has a four-star deluxe rating. They have now fixed the air conditioning (a real bug bear in last summer’s heat) in time for the summer.
The rooms are clean and well laid out. The bathrooms were also really nicely done up and very clean. They don’t all have baths, so if this is important to you, it’s best to specify. However, the bathroom doors were partly see-through, so if you are not with a partner it might be a bit embaressing!
The beds are reasonably firm and the facilities are good. There's a steam room, a sauna, and a small gym.
They also have a stylish bar and a restaurant, Sherlock’s Grill, where they serve organic, modern British food. The service here is good, and the food is generally of a high standard. The wood-fired grill in the kitchen is the main feature of the restaurant.
