Vistana's Beach Club

  • July 12, 2005
  • Rated 4 of 5 by Mike/Olivia from Bellevue, Washington
Best Things Nearby:
The beach is near, of course, and it’s within driving range of West Palm Beach, Jupiter, Vero Beach, and maybe Orlando. Downtown Jensen Beach does have entertainment and quality restaurants.

Best Things About the Resort:
There is a dedicated and friendly staff, it is non-congested, and you have the feeling of it being a remote area.

Resort Experience:
Maybe because of 2004 hurricane damage, there is absolutely no room that has a blocked view of the ocean. No units are below the second floor, and any bushes that are higher than 12 feet, if there were really any, likely were wiped out. The boardwalk was repaired by Memorial Day weekend 2005, when the beginning of the restoration of the landscaping along the resort's shoreline occurred.

However, the pools and other facilities are superb for the small size of this resort, with approximately 73 units. Poolside or activity-center activities are scheduled each day. Remember, to get the oceanfront units, you need a Friday check-in date, and the ocean-view units (overlooking pool area, but only about 125 diagonal feet back) have the Saturday check-in date. The oceanfront units do require the five units on each floor to share the free washer and dryers, while the ocean-view units have them in the room. The decks on the ocean-view units are at least half the size of the decks on the oceanfront building, but we rarely noticed the decks being used to capacity as it was. The pool, gazebo, or beach appeared to be the gathering spots. The resort is beginning to show its 28-year age in the bathroom tiles, but the units are meticulously cleaned, complete with a mid-stay linen change, vacuuming, and tidying up.

The only complaint with the location is that the millions of seashells on the beach made it miserable to walk barefoot on the beach. It is recommend to at least wear flip-flops or walk in the wave lines to avoid the discomfort of the shells (perhaps the hurricanes brought too many in at once to create this situation). Grainy sand, such that at Daytona, or white powder, such as that at Tampa, it is not!

Crawdaddy's is decent Cajun restaurant nearby in Jensen's Beach. The Islander Café, within walking distance, reflects the local culture. Both serve generous portions with a good value. The resort will not be appealing to those that need to be in an urban environment to enjoy themselves.

Also, do not follow MapQuest directions from Orlando to get to the resort. Instead of the Cracker or Orange Road exit to Ft. Pierce, remain on I-95 until exit 142, Port Lucia, to avoid the depressing and longer Ft. Pierce route.

Best Things Nearby:
Points to the South you have Martin and Palm Beach Counties here you can enjoy Historic Downtown Stuart, the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge & Nature Center and Indiantown, to the north you have St. Lucie County where you can see the Manatee & Nature Viewing and the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution along with World Class Golf, for local things you have Horseback Riding on the Beach or Dolphin Watching to name a few.

Best Things About the Resort:
Ocean view units and great pool for those who don't want to get in the ocean.

Resort Experience:
It was quite an experience taking grandkids to Florida for Spring Break. We all loved it and plan on returning soon. Grandkids liked the ocean but at the time we were there the surf was way to ruff so they had to settle for playing on the edge of the water and picking up shells.

Best Things About the Resort:
Ocean Front units over looking the beach. Swimming pool for those who don't want to swim in the ocean.

Resort Experience:
Vistana Beach Club is a wonderful place to visit and spend time. It is not on the regular places for kids for spring break so it was not crowded and we had such a wonderful time that we are planning on returning again. Life with five grandkids was a trip in its self. But would do it again. Kids preferred the beach but surf was much to ruff for them to get in ocean so they spent most of their time picking up shells and we brought home five big plastic bags full of shells. They also enjoyed the pool as it was not real deep anywhere so the older ones as well as the little ones could enjoy it.

Best Things Nearby:
Beach/Ocean. Several good restaurants on the river.

Best Things About the Resort:
Large rooms - washer/dryer in unit. Jacuzzi in master bedroom. Daily activities, especially for kids

Resort Experience:
The resort is located on Hutchinson Island - which is mostly condos or homes and only a few hotels. You cross Indian River to get to it. There weren't any golden arches in sight - a few restaurants on the island, but mostly we had to go to the mainland. Jensen Beach had a fun Thursday evening activity.

We had a good view of the ocean (4th floor), but the 6th, 7th, or 8th would have been better. There were only four units on each floor, so it wasn't crowded. Since there were mostly condos or homes, the beach wasn't crowded either. We were in the back building...the front building must be Sheraton/Vistana owners or renters, but they don't have a washer/dryer in the unit. The unit was the largest/nicest we have had on the beach. The pool was nice, but a couple of us got lots of bug bites, maybe from insects in the shrubbery around the pool. There was lots of turtle activity, lots of small shells, and the ocean water was good - some seaweed.

Overall - great place!
