The Thistle, Edinburgh

The hotel was very much like an American hotel, large lobby, modern elevators, rooms that are large by European standards, card keys. We checked in, the room was ready, clean, large, comfortable beds. Wifi is available, but not free (around 15 pounds a day). However, there was a cafe/bar across the street with free wifi. For the rate we paid in advance on online travel website, it was a good value. An added bonus was that it was a five minute walk (practically across the street) from the train station, so we did not have to take a cab to and from. Very close to Northbridge which takes you directly onto the High Street. Good location, good room, good value.

This was our third trip to Edinburgh and our first time staying at this property. It was very clean and the staff was wonderful. It is primarily a business hotel but we were well taken care of as vacationers. The rooms are compact but had plenty of drawer and hanging space. Every time we walked through the hallways the housekeeping staff would speak and ask if we needed anything. The best part of staying at this property was the incredible friendliness of the staff and the wonderful shortbreads they leave in your room every day to enjoy with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate; which is provided as well!!!!! Also, we loved the towel warmer in the bathroom!!

Small rooms, but great service, clean , and centrally located. Very good quality for the price.

This hotel seemed just perfect, I took much time trying to find the right spot and arrived to find the hotel seriously overbooked. They had overbooked by about 80 people that day and had to turn many people away. Their "system" is not working right but it has not been working right for months. I wonder how long it is going to take to fix this. Possibly booking directly with the hotel would result in one having a real reservation. I had a confirmed reservation but it did no good, other than to send me to another hotel a long way from where I wanted to be. Not a good experience at all!

Thistle is located in the center of Edinburgh. You can walk to tour buses and many of the attractions.
