Beware

First and foremost...the best thing about this place is Audrey...she is one of the bartenders at the pool side bar. She is one of the most wonderful people I've met. Kind of like you just want to take her home with you...a real doll.

Now...

Budget price yes, and I wont be back. Got attacked by bed bugs! I am still suffering from the bites (we were there 10/14-10/21). You see sometimes it can take up to 9 days (according to reseach I've done) for them to wheal up and anywhere from a week to over a month to go away! And then there is the disinfecting of your clothes, luggage, etc...you know just in case there was a hitch-hiker or two or a colony......then you have to keep an eye out for them in case you missed them in you clothes or luggage etc. I now daily inspect my 'bed'. The eggs can lay dormant for up to a year...In my opinion, any hotel with that much volume of travelers, should be fumigating monthly.

Oh and forget the bus transportation to the parks etc. We took a cab so as not to waste up to 2 hours a day. Seems the Pop Century has fewer busses, and don't run as often as the other resorts.

All in all, this was not my ideal vacation. I could have spent that money on a cruise to Alaska!

What Were we Thinking?

My husband and I just came back from Disney for 5 days. During the time we were booking our trip, we decided to try a different resort (we stayed at the caribbean beach 3 years ago....great place). So, due to the meal plan and the great price on value resorts, we decided to stay at Pop Century. Wow. Where do I begin. First of all, the bathroom was a joke. No tub. Simply a tile floor with a plastic shower curtain separating the toilet and where you shower. Every time someone showered, the entire floor got wet and the next person walking in to use the toilet would have get soaked. 2 of the walls in the shower area was covered in hair. Grossed me out, since I knew it wasn't ours (we hadn't even used it yet). But, I simply poured cleaner on the walls, and cleaned it myself. The room had a king size bed in it, and I felt as though we were in a 7yr old boys room. Now, I understand we chose this resort, so I shouldn't complain about the decorating, but....even for a 7 yr old boy, the room seemed dirty. As I'm reading these reviews and several people have complained about bed bugs at Pop century....now it's giving me the willies. We were concerned about such a thing, but thank god we never had any! The housekeeping was annoying as anything. They would knock on our door, and we'd tell them to come back in an hour or so. 15 minutes later, they were back. Our bathroom light was out for 3 days (we were only there for 5). Which, could actually be a good thing, since we couldn't see the filth in the tiles. The tv stations didn't even have fox news! ugh! lol Every single time someone else in the resort showered or used the toilet....you knew about it. Poor piping insulation and poor insulation in the walls. You heard everything. The rooms I would rate a 0 for sure......but the resort itself I would rate a 6, We'll never stay at a value resort again. It just isn't worth trying to save a buck, ....we surely regretted every second we were in that room. Oh, did I mention that the toilet was completely filthy? I have no idea what was living in there, and I don't want to know! The towels were extremely thin and frayed. People were smoking right outside of the cafeteria, and it was tough not to walk through it. That happens everywhere I suppose...but it didn't help the situation. It was just a lousy experience. I was soooooooooooooo happy to come home. It will be a long time before we even go to Disney. But, when we do, we will be paying for a much nicer resort.

Great Experience

We had a great experience staying at Pop Century. Check in/out was very efficient. Our rooms were great. The beds comfortable and plenty of space. We loved all the themed areas and the pool was so relaxing to go hop in and cool off after a morning in the parks. Loved the location. We drove sometimes and rode the bus others. Never had to wait for bus service. We ate at the Classic dining hall. Lots of choices. Bought a lot of stuff at the shops because of the variety and ease of taking it right back to our room. We felt is was a great value and great time.

Motel 6 of Disney

I realize that I booked the cheapest resort on Disney's property, but I was simply looking for a place to sleep at night. And I had a great stay a few years ago at the All-Star Sports Resort, so I expected a similar stay at Pop Century. I didn't anticipate the inconsiderate nature of many fellow guests and the apathy of the resport's staff. If you throw out the beautiful landscaping and the outward Disney images, this hotel is nothing but a Motel 6 -- uncomfortable beds, paper-thin towels and sheets, and thin walls between rooms. One night, our "neighbors" were very interested in the Lakers' game on television -- they were screaming at the television at 10 p.m., and we could hear them as if they were in the same room as us. After complaints to the front desk were unproductive, we requested a room change -- which they initially refused until we pressed the issue. They "showed us" by moving us to a room completely across the complex, an uncomfortable late-night move (15-minute walk in the rain with a 2-year-old). Additionally, smokers (there were many) were allowed to stand in the entrance of the main building, blowing smoke at fellow guests as they entered. Resort staff simply didn't care and let them continue to stay in undesignated areas. If you DO want to stay in this hotel: 1. Spring for the more deluxe option. The cheaper rooms are inconviently far from the dining/front desk/bus area. 2. Avoid the dining area at breakfast. They are incapible of serving the number of people who want to be served. Unfortunately with the cheaper resort comes the least talented resort staff members who simply didn't care about their job. Not completely unexpected, but equally as disappointing none-the-less.

Nice disney hotel, has some issues though....

The hotel is "nice", being that it was on Disney property and all. But, I was very disappointed at check in. I booked (03) rooms and they only had the right information on (01) room. So needless to say, I spent over an hour at the front desk trying to get the information right with a girl that was in training, trying to figure out how to fix it. All while my (02) four year old twins were losing their minds. When all was said and done, I still had to wait a little over an hour for my room to be ready. What to do with the twins? Good question. And when it finally was ready, it smelled of spoiled food.
