Just what we needed

we stayed sun-wed may 30- jun 3. hotel is beuatiful and clean and the staff was very helpful. Except for the front door, where the desk clerks are, you hade to use your door key to get in hotel and parking lot. This is a great security feature. A convenient location to Busch Gardens and less than 1 hour from Richmond. We will definately stay here again. The breakfast was fruit, cereal, bagels, english muffins, packaged oatmeal. all the quick foods you would have at home. coffee was a little bitter for my taste but enough sugar and it is ok. This motel has only non-smoking rooms. This is ok. I am a smoker and I went outside. Even I do not like the way smoking rooms smell. :) If you plan to go to this area, a GPS navigation is a good thing to have because of all the twist and turns and you will spend alot of time hunting what you need if you do not have one. This made for a great trip. Not like vacations in the past where we had to spend time and gas hunting places we were looking for.

Very nice!

We enjoyed our several-night stay in May '09 a great deal. Good facilities, great staff, well-run, quiet, better than average breakfast, convenient to the historical area. Our third-floor accommodations had a cool window that stretched the entire width of the room, with an exceptional view of the namesake outside. Groups of school kids often trooped through the lobby but never caused us the slightest problem. Good deals can be had in the off-season, too. The only thing we missed was a frig and microwave.

Small but clean and convenient

The room was on small but clean and comfortable. The hotel was nice, very clean and very convenient. They serve a free continental breakfast in the morning that was good. The Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center was next door and provided a free (air conditioned) shuttle to Colonial Williamsburg. Excellent visit!

Just OK

We chose to stay on the Colonial Williamsburg property for the convenience of being able to easily return to our hotel during the course of the day if needed. This proved to be a good decision since the Woodlands is located next to the Visitor Center, with quick and easy access to the Historic areas. The room rate was a great, considering that passes (for all 5 of us) was included with our 4-night hotel stay. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. We were less than impressed with the service staff. They seemed to do their job with little enthusiasm and interacted very little with the hotel guests. They seldom smiled or greeted us. We returned to our room one afternoon, around 3:30, to find that the room had not yet been cleaned. This wasn't necessarily an issue for us until the maid knocked on the door and was visibly upset that we were in the room and she wanted to clean. I assured her that we would be leaving in 5 minutes and she turned away from me, mumbling 'yea, you all just go away now!'. A manager assured us that the employee would be spoken to about this. At another time, we needed towels, because they were not always replaced adequately each day, and it took over a half hour to have a couple towels brought to our room. I suspect that the service staff may be contracted, and if this is the case, they may have more satisfied guests if they would employ their own staff and train them to provide friendlier customer service. We were in a 3rd floor room and the elevator did not always work, requiring us to use the stairs. (My husband has a bad back and hip.) Rather annoying.

Luxuriate, but skip the breakfast.

The hotel, staff, comfort, parking, location are all perfect, but the "Continental Breakfast" is best avoided. Grab your juice and coffee and drive to a real restaurant. Look out for busses laden with children, and don't use the elevator when they approach. The Woodlands is in a lovely setting and is convenient to everything Williamsburg.
