Embassy Vacation Resort at Kaanapali Beach

The resort is a typical Embassy Resort in style, with a beautiful beachfront setting on Ka'anapali Beach in Maui. Resort has two restaurants, a 1-acre pool, its own mini-golf course, and beautifully landscaped grounds. Rooms are one or two bedrooms (ocean-front view rooms are considered deluxe rooms and are not available to RCI members). Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, sink and dishwasher (no stove or cooktop). We had a one-bedroom unit with a pull-out sofa in the living room. The unit can comfortably service up to four people. This resort is in the process of renovating rooms—we had a renovated room and it was very nice. We especially liked the private lanai, from which we enjoyed the island breezes every night!

The concierge staff is very helpful—I recommend their services for booking your entertainment/activities. Parking is $12 a night, but valet is provided for free, which is nice (of course, you have to tip!). Resort offers a breakfast buffet every morning ($12 a day) and while we did not use this option, those we met who used it were happy with it. There is also a free cocktail hour nightly... again, we didn't use it, but it seemed popular judging from the lines.

The pool was a nice place to relax, though there were very little shaded areas. My over-grown, child-like husband loved the (kiddie) slide in the pool. The resort is right on the beach, and offers fabulous opportunities to catch a beautiful Maui sunset.

Unfortunately, we got stuck with a room that had two double beds (and we weren't thrilled, but there wasn't much we could do about it). We tried to check-in early, but it took them hours to page us that our room was ready, so I wouldn't recommend wasting your time like that. Also, beware of the timeshare tour. We were offered $100 in activity vouchers in exchange for our time to tour the resort. That seemed generous... until we saw an ad in a local tourism brochure that offered $175 to someone walking in off the street who would take the same exact tour. We expressed our dissatisfaction about this very deceptive policy to the hotel management and were less-than-impressed with their response. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't have bothered to take 2 hours out of my vacation to hear their sales pitch.

Those were, however, our only complaints. Overall, we were thrilled with our vacation and we had a GREAT time. I would recommend the resort, with the above cautions kept in mind.

Beach and the pool

Best Things About the Resort:
Nice location, beautiful views, and a good value

Resort Experience:
The hotel is great value for the trade. The location is only a couple exits past Whaler's Village. It's convenient to everything, has wonderful views of the ocean, and is right now the ocean. We went for our honeymoon, and they upgraded us to an ocean view in one of their renovated rooms. It was great. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. The breakfast is a good value at $85 for the week, though we didn't take advantage of it. If we had a family of four with us, we would have. The welcome breakfast was worth going to just to hear about the activities on the island. We only wished that it was connected with the Whaler's Village beach walkway; it would have been nice to just walk to Whaler's Village rather than drive. I would recommend a car!

Best Things About the Resort:
Large, spacious rooms

Resort Experience:
We enjoyed having such a large room with kitchen facilities, two TV's, and a nice bathroom. They had a large pool and beach. They offered member get-togethers and tour info. My major wish for the hotel is that the pool had some shaded area. I had a small child and wanted to take her in the pool without the fear of burning; yet there were absolutely no shaded areas. That was biggest drawback.

Best Things Nearby:
The beaches in the area are fantastic: clean, mostly sandy, and not too crowded.

Best Things About the Resort:
The location and the pool were the best. It is directly on a beach, just up the road from Whalers Village, and a couple of miles from Lahaina. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Resort Experience:
The accommodations at the resort are a typical Embassy design, not extravagant, but very nice. We had a one-bedroom, with a great view of the ocean. Kitchen facilities included a microwave and fridge, but no stove or dishwasher. A coffee pot was a measly four-cup size--not good for us coffee-drinkers!!

The pool at this resort claims to be 1 acre in size. It is not overly loaded with people, and there are a lot of lounge chairs/tables around. They have scuba lessons at the pool.

The in-house restaurant is very good, and the wait staff is helpful and pleasant. They have a typical buffet breakfast, but it has an excellent price ($85/week for four people, or $17/day for four people). Get there early, or the buffet can be cold, just like anywhere else.

Parking is $10/day, so expect that additional expense. It is covered, however. Valet parking is optional tipping. The concierge and bell captain are very helpful. Maid service is limited to one day per week, but they do come in daily to straighten up a little bit. Porches were daily swept of sand, which was nice. There is a rooftop miniature golf course, which was nice for both adults and kids

Best Things Nearby:
There was snorkeling at Black Rock, Kaanapali beach, and shopping

Best Things About the Resort:
It was in a great location, and we stayed in a very nice suite.

Resort Experience:
It was close to lots of activities, great beaches, and snorkeling. It had well-kept grounds and a nice pool, although we only used it once.

The $10 dollar parking fee a day is a drag, but a car is a must to fully enjoy the island. After several disappointing and expensive meals at some local restaurants, we ended up using the microwave in our room quite a bit. We laughed because the best meals we had were microwavable Stouffers meals. The mini kitchen with a microwave, refrigerator, sink, and dishwasher was invaluable. I would stay there again in a minute.
