The Hotel Winneshiek is a beautifully restored hotel that dates from 1905. Rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. Even if you don't stay at the Hotel Winneshiek, it is worth walking in to see the beautiful cherry entrance staircase.
The hotel is small, with about 30 rooms, and features regular rooms from about $100 to several different types of suites that go as high as $230. The hotel is set in downtown Decorah, which means you are within walking distance of all of the charming downtown shops, many historic homes, and (depending on fitness level) the Upper Iowa River and several parks.
In addition to continental breakfast included with the room, the Hotel Winneshiek features two restaurants -- the Victorian Rose Restaurant (Thursday - Saturday for lunch and dinner) and the casual Albert's Lounge, open evenings only. Separate entries will describe the Victorian Rose Restaurant in more detail, but I think Albert's Lounge, while a nice convenience, just doesn't compare to all the local stand-alone restaurants within a block or two of the hotel.
