Our experience (2 adults, no chidren) was horrible! We have stayed in NYC multiple times, and this was the worst place and experience. The staff did not attend to anyone that walks through the door. No "hello" nothing. In addition, they are rude. The rooms are small, small, small. The beds are hard, hard, hard. We literally were in shock when we got into the room. They would not allow any check in prior to 3 (which is normal) but when we showed back up at 5pm, it still wasn't ready (another 20 min). The "gym" is a small cluttered room with machines that are older than my grandparents. The treadmills don't work, or at least no one could figure out how, with no assistance from staff. There are two elevators, both of which only holds 2 or 3 people depdending on if you have luggage. Overall, this is a boutique hotel, but its a bad boutique. Enter at your own risk.

This is a European style hotel -- small room tucked into three combined buildings, winding corridors, and loads of charm. North Square restaurant is excellent. The only problem was the room was really warm, and even the a/c did not seem to cool it much -- and this was in March.

Convenient location in Greenwich Village

We went to NYC to look at colleges for one of my kids. The hotel was convenient to NYU, Eugene Lang, Washington Park, shopping, restaurants. However, even with only 2 people, the room was so cramped we had to take turns walking around the bed to get to the bathroom, etc.--even though it was called a "Deluxe Queen" room! The radiator heat was toasty but difficult to control -- we had to open a window in Feb.! Service was mediocre, but the complimentary breakfast was nice -- good coffee!

"Great location, A bit expensive"

I am very pleased with my stay at the hotel. The staff was very friendly, the location is great since I was visiting NYU, but I thought it was expensive. I know hotels are not cheap in New York City and I do not know how much of this can be avoided, but for a graduate student, I found it pretty steep. However, I am very pleased with the stay.

Washington Square Hotel

If you can get past the minute dimentions of the rooms here (so small the beds are practically IN the closets), this hotel's location -- facing Washington Square Park right in the middle of Greenwhich Village -- and street-cred -- Bob Dylan and Joan Baez both lived here when it was still an apartment building and they were busking across the street -- are two big reasons to stay here.

It's also steps from SOHO, Greenwhich, the E Village and the shops of Bleeker St. You'll never need a taxi or the subway, you're so close to everything. And they make up for their cramped chambers with friendly and helpful service, fresh cut flowers in the lobby, and cable TV and A/C in the rooms (you'll be thankful for the A/C on a hot NY day). In fact, the overall vibe is akin to having your own studio a NY doorman building.
