far from subway

This hotel was nice but it was quite a walk to the nearest subway. It was a little scary walking to our hotel at night from the subway. This hotel is not in a prime location if you want to experience shopping in New York.
A NYC week

A good place for an extended family stay in NYC. Our family is used to much more space than you usually find in NYC hotel rooms. This suite hotel lets you spread out a bit. You can request a complimentary mini-fridge when you make reservations. There are enough food choices close to the hotel to allow my husband and I to leave our teens to their own devices while we went to an upscale restaurant. Free buffet breakfast kept my husband and son happy in the mornings while my daughter and I were happy to slip into one of the numerous bakeries sprinkled on the route to the subway (5 blocks away). Century 21 Department store nearby offers quick bargin priced shopping. The 11 screen movie theater conveniently located at the hotel saved the day when our theater ticket arrangements fell through.
The skyline views from our floor were beautiful. The hotel staff friendly and solicitous. An Internet connection is an extra charge. There is free internet access downstairs in the "Business Center" but so many guests let their younger children use it unattended that I can't imagine anyone using it for business. The room decor was basic, but when we want chic we know we will have to pay alot more than the family friendly room-rate at this hotel. It was a good choice for us and we would stay there again.
Great Value & Hotel

Stayed here in Dec of 2008, between Christmas and New Years.
The Location slightly worried us because it was far from all "the lights and glitz" of NYC, but boy were we wrong. The hotel was only a 5 minute walk to the subway, and a 10 minute cab ride to midtown. There was plenty to eat/do/see in the downtown area as well. We set out one night to explore and ended up seeing Wall Street, Trinity Church, South St. Seaport, & so much more, all within walking distance.
The Accomodations were great. I like a room that is comfortable and home-like, so these suites were great for us. Offering 2 tvs, and the door between the living/bed rooms made it easy to "get away" from each other whenever we needed a breather from each other.
The Staff was attentive and welcoming. Even when they may not be able to help at that moment, you knew they would get to you as soon as possible. Housekeeping did a good job keeping the suite clean and restocked with necessities.
The Breakfast had a line, but nothing we couldnt deal with. Allow yourself 15-20 minutes and you will be fine. Dining around the hotel was easy. Pick a Bagel had some great sanwiches, Pizza Bolla had great pizza, and Starbucks is located across the street in the World Financial Center.
Definately a place we enjoyed staying at. Will stay again!
Nice Hotel, but the walls are thin!

The hotel is in a nice area. Has restaurants within walking distance on the water. Can walk easily to the subway to go uptown if you want. Easy to catch a taxi at the Hotel. The only complaint that I have is that the walls of the rooms are thin, so you can hear every sound that a neighboring room is doing. Then they complained about us in the morning when my kids got up and were a little loud.
Otherwise, a good place to stay!
GOOD VALUE

Although a bit out off main subway accessibility (about a 6-8 minute walk to Chambers St, the nearest line), E.S. was a good value, especially if you have kids and need the extra room (and extra TV). Breakfast was good, varied, and plentiful. Drinks and munchies at cocktail time were a nice touch, although very spartan.
