Not worth the money

This hotel is beautiful and the service is wonderful. However, the cleanliness of the rooms leaves something to be desired. I had to request clean towels because mine had not been changed from the last guests and the shower curtain liner was covered with mildew, which also had to be changed. The snacks in the room were outdated and the ones that weren't outdated were melted. The tub was also dirty. I am not even positive that the room had been cleaned prior to my check-in. I have stayed at Hampton Inns that were cleaner.

Beautiful old hotel; exquisite lobby, but a whole lot of money for a small room and rather disinterested staff. One of the doormen walked us in, clearly hustling for a tip after we declined help with luggage. Only one working elevator and very cold air conditioning blowing in the hallways. What brought the whole experience down, though, was the 5 star restaurant with terribly slow service and wait staff that barely engaged with us. The food was just average when it finally arrived and then the wait staff started changing table cloths and filling salt shakers before we were half done with dinner. We seemed extraneous to their operation. Having stayed in a true 5 star establishment at the start of our trip in Charlottesville, we had a recent Virginia experience to compare. The Boar's Head Inn was fabulous in every way; the Jefferson was a huge disappointment. It's an okay hotel but over-priced, not okay restaurant way over-priced, and no, we wouldn't spend all that money there again. If in Richmond, go in to sit in the lobby and absorb the architechture, then move on.

Hotel itself was fantastic, lot of history and information from it's grand past. Decor and evrything about the hotel was sheer class. The only down side was there was no dress code in the restaurant, while my wife and i wanted to enjoy a romantic dinner for two, I wasn't pleased to see other restauranters in caps, shorts and vests, without sounding a snob this just down graded the whole experienc. When we commented on how dissapointed we were the manager agreed and presented us with some chocolate delights, overall thought great hotel

You will not be disappointed with the Jefferson. It remains true to its traditions. The rooms were elegant and the staff were loyal to their commitment of customer service....a rare quality indeed.
