It was supposed to be a perfect 10th anniversary. We arrived at 3:45, the room wasn't ready . By 4:15 the room still wasn't ready. Finally, around 4:30 the room was ready. However, we were switched to another room because there was "a problem" with our original room. The room was medicore at best and right next to the elevators. There were loud dinging sounds until 2:00 am everytime the elevator doors opened. Upon opening the room the first thing we noticed was a hole in the carpet and the room was 80-degrees.
We turned down the thermostat to 70 and nothing happened. We gave it some time and 4-hours later it was still 80-degrees in the room. What else...the in room safe would not lock. I called the front desk and they said someone would be right up. Half-hour later still no maintenance person. In fact, nobody ever showed. Oh, the extension cord incident. One lamp was plugged into a * extension cord which was stuck under the carpet. Very dangerous thing to do. Ah..the dresser. The "dresser" was part of the TV stand. However, it also contained the mini-bar and was locked. We had the key and tried to open it. Finally, after several tries and fiddling with the lock the door opened to reveal three very small drawers..nothing big enough to put away any clothes. At */night I really expected a perfect room.
The Lemaire Restaurant was good but overrrated. The quoted charge of * for a three course dinner on the hotel website is false. What they don't mention is the mandatory * "set up fee" + taxes + gratuity. Most 5-Star restaurants have complimentary coffee..not this one which was */cup for what tasted like Folgers.
Perfect!

This was one of the best hotel experiences my family as ever had. Every single member of the staff we had contact with had a friendly greeting and, if we asked a question, was very helpful and professional. We were upgraded upon check-in due to "Southern hospitality," the clerk said. The room as large, well furnished, clean and very comfortable. The hotel itself is a Southern landmark, with a beautiful lobby and other public rooms worth a visit even if you're not staying there. Highly recommended.

The hotel was beautiful, and the front desk was efficient and friendly. All services from valet parking to bellman were efficient and friendly. The room assigned was not ready, so we were assigned a better room and found an envelope under the door the next morning apologizing for the problem and enclosing two tickets for breakfast for two at the 5 diamond restaurant. Transportation to and from restaurants and museums was wonderful, as was the concierge service. Both restaurants were very good. No complaints, and we can't wait to go back.
If you are thinking about it for a wedding....

I have never experienced such rude managerial staff before ever. I am from NY and we attended a wedding @ the Jefferson. The bride's family were very attentive and had planned a great day @ the Jefferson. While the food was very good and we all had a good time because of the company-i would never recommend this hotel to anyone. First, they ID'd EVERYONE at the ADULT RECEPTION. And they made members of the bridal party go back to their hotel in order to get their licenses. They hired security to watch their bars which made you feel like a criminal AND you were only allowed one drink at a time. so, therefore if you were getting something for an older guest or for your date you simply were not allowed. They then decided that the party was "out-of--control" which was interesting considering it was 8PM and it was just getting started. Looking around the room you saw adults chatting a few people on the dance floor-hardly what could be defined as "out-of-control". They then instructed the DJ to play slow musoc ONLY, which, i'm sorry, it is not YOUR wedding you do not get to choose what to do. I was told to "Go away" from a manager when i asked for a drink (my third in 3 hours). They took the bar away for 45v minutes without an apology or explanation. It was by far the WORST customer service i have ever encountered @ a wedding. They were rude and obnoxious.
Not worth the money

This hotel is beautiful and the service is wonderful. However, the cleanliness of the rooms leaves something to be desired. I had to request clean towels because mine had not been changed from the last guests and the shower curtain liner was covered with mildew, which also had to be changed. The snacks in the room were outdated and the ones that weren't outdated were melted. The tub was also dirty. I am not even positive that the room had been cleaned prior to my check-in. I have stayed at Hampton Inns that were cleaner.
