Had Higher Expectations

While the hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly, willing to help with anything, I was a bit disappointed in the overall quality of the the hotel, being it is a "Holiday Inn" The hotel is showing strong signs of its age and really needs a major remodeling & updating. Having our room on the 4th flr of the main bldg with baggage required the daily use of the elevator. This experience could be a bit unsettling to some, as the elevator continually creaked and squeaked during its ascent and decent with a bit of a jolt as it finally settled to a stop in either direction at any floor. The indoor pool did not seem to really be kept up on a daily basis, as walking by one day there appeared to be some kind of skum film floating throughout the length of the pool, so much for attempting its use that day, and the workout room could use a major facelift and upgrading of equipment. Unable to comment on the hotels restaurant as we ate at many of the dining establishments scattered about the downtown area. Having been to Estes Park several times in the past and staying at some of the other area locations, this was my most disappointing experience with a hotels' condition, especially for a major chain. Unfortunately, IMO, this hotel will never have the longevity and ambience of the Stanley Hotel, which by the way is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and located just a little further up the road, and offers more scenic views of the surrounding mountain range of Rocky Mtn Nat'l Pk.

Not Happy

First off this hotel is arranged strangely, many stairs all over the place, hard to find room, was like a college building. WifFi was down our entire stay, called front desk, they were not helpful. Room was not very clean, could have used a vacuum. Resturant was ok, had a blah dinner the first night, second night prime rib buffet was great. Hotel is located just outside downtown.

Not impressed.

My husband and I live in the Denver area and like to go to Estes occasionally for our anniversary weekend. The previous time we stayed at this location was nearly 6 years ago. I definately don't remember it the way we found it this time or we would never have stayed there again. First of all, the front desk woman was far from friendly and seemed put out that we were there. The elevator seems ancient and as slow as a turtle. Our room was musty smelling and just run down. We've stayed at very classy, elegant hotels for the same price that we payed for this dive! To top it off, they charged my credit card for the room even though I purchased the room through travelocity. Still hoping to get that one cleared up! Oh, the bartender at the lounge was great...very friendly.

We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn in Estes Park. We were there for a wedding and the location was close to all of the activities we attended. Although this hotel was older, the accomodations were up to date and the room was very nice. The service was very good and the breakfast buffet was excellent.

Gone to the dogs

The first night we stayed (10/3/08), much of the hotel was occupied by some kind of dog group. I'm not talking about people with one or two dogs. Many of them had six or more dogs with them. I'm sure there were well over 100 dogs on site, including two groups that were parked outside our window that had perhaps a dozen dogs each. Some of those dogs were barking and whining till late in the evening. We complained at 10 p.m., and someone from the group got the dog owners to quiet down their animals, with just some random barking after about 10:30 or so. The dog group was there only one night, but our wing of the hotel smelled like a kennel for the remainder of our two-night stay. Other parts of the hotel didn't seem to smell as bad, so maybe we were just unlucky. On the good side, the front desk evening staff was friendly and as responsive to our concerns as they could be. Housekeeping did the best it could given the situation. The motel made a big mistake in signing this group. They should have either booked the entire hotel for them, or not allowed them at all. I like dogs and own one, but I wouldn't think of taking a pack of them with me to a motel and letting them bark into the night. And there's no way to keep that many dogs from creating an odor problem. My overall rating and cleanliness rating reflect the dog problem, which adversely affected our stay. Without the dogs, I would have ranked the motel OK to good. But I wouldn't stay here again because I wouldn't want to take a chance on the same thing happening another time.
