Description: Very close to the White House, the Capitol Hill Hilton offers what you'd expect from the Hilton brand. We had three rooms here, all of which were nicely appointed and spacious. In one of our rooms, my mother-in-law used a roll-away bed so that she could be near her elderly parents if they needed help in the middle of the night. Still, there was enough floor space to move around.
When we first arrived, our rooms were not yet ready, so we decided to have lunch at Twig's Grill. The staff here was very helpful with my grandmother-in-law's wheelchair, and we enjoyed the casual yet nice setting. Papa loved his giant club sandwich ($13.25), and I thought the vegetable panini I ordered ($13.75) was delicious. Later we also ate at Fran O'Brien's, the expensive on-site steakhouse. (See separate review.)
Other Features?
There is a full service health club connected to the Hilton. After a run through the city, I decided to check this out. This is a nice gym with all the equipment you could possibly want, but there is an additional fee to use these facilities.
The Capital Hilton is also home to a full service spa. Make an appointment for a massage or facial. Here my grandmother-in-law indulged in her very first manicure and pedicure! A little more expensive than spa prices in our hometown of Atlanta, this was still a relaxing way to spend a final morning in DC.
There's a gift shop in the lobby that had plenty of garb to buy for people on both sides of the political aisle.
The room service breakfast we ordered each morning was wonderful. We were traveling with two elderly people, and they really appreciated being able to eat in their room. Anything you could possibly want is on the menu... well... except grits. We had to settle for hash browns!
Any Disappointments?
I was surprised to find the hotel doesn't have a pool.
Special Services?
I should mention the head concierge was very friendly and helpful. After he told me it would be difficult to fit a haunted tour in Alexandria into our tight schedule, he wiped the frown off my son's face by taking a couple of extra minutes in the lobby to tell the kid a few ghost stories. (There's a rumor the storage facilities at the Hilton are haunted!) I certainly appreciated this effort. My son also received a small gift at check-in through the Hilton's Kid's Vacation Club.
Bottom Line?
As you'd expect, this is a nice hotel. I've experienced more luxury in DC, but this would easily fall into the "high end" accommodations category. The service here was phenomenal, and that's what would prompt me to stay here again.
