Arrived on a white Christmas Eve.....Loved the anticipation of the 2 mile ride up the mountain..... The hotel looks like a european resort ....The views were breathtaking.......Very attentive staff....Great room service.....Food was excellent and never dissapointing......Loved the afternoon tea/cookie hour with two blazing fireplaces....The spa was unbelievable and alone worth the trip....Top nouch staff, prices a little high but worth the $$$......Loved the outdoor spa......Hotel activities were mostly outdoors... ice skating, snow shoeing, cross country sking, hiking and tubing......There is even a huge barn museum with 140 years of history, which I found to be very educational and historic......Only a small walk from the barn is a beautiful Green House, with nice gift shop where you can purchase plants ......I can't wait to go back to experience what summer is like.

Our family has stayed at the Mohonk Mountain House before Christmas for several years now. It has become one of our favorite mini-vacations. We travel with five families, consisting of 10 adults and 12 children. The children's ages range from 2-19, and there is absolutely something for everybody here. The hotel is HUGE, exploration possibilities are endless in the hotel as well as outside on the grounds. We have stayed in several room types - suites, large tower rooms, singles. Many rooms have working fireplaces and balconies. There are no TV's in the bedrooms, but that adds to the charm. The decor is top quality old-fashioned, love it. There are tons of hiking trails, a great day program for children, and several great shops on site. The lake is awesome, and boats are available. You'll enjoy tea and cookies, and scheduled activities daily. The spa is AMAZING, not like any I have visited before. Our families enjoyed the meals the most though. Dinner is formal, and boys/men are required to wear a jacket. Breakfast, lunch and dinner has some of the finest food I've ever eaten. Staff is attentive, helpful and efficient. I would stay here any time.

This is a place to experience! The grounds are spectular. We've come here before for a day trip and decided to spend the first night of our honeymoon here. We were disappointed to leave so soon. One day was not long enough to really enjoy the environment. If you are looking for a place to stay busy or slow down without having to leave the premises this is the place. The only issue we had was we felt like they were trying to push us out before we had to leave. Check out is at 2pm and they want your luggage by 12 and suggest coming to clean before 2pm. We are looking forward to returning and staying longer.

I had the pleasure of staying in room 657 at Mohonk Mountain House. Room 657 is one of their Victorian rooms with a full sized bed and a twin sized bed. It is also one of the seventy rooms that has a fireplace. A balcony with a few rocking chairs provided a lofty view of the parking lot, but it was still nice, nonetheless.
Although I spent a lot of time at the conference I was attending, I was still able to take advantage of some of the recreational spaces that Mohonk has to offer including the indoor heated swimming pool that allows you to hear music underwater, the fitness gym with a plethora of treadmills, elipticals and weight machines, and the myraid of hiking trails. I highly recommend Sky Top Mountain; it is one of the more popular trails, and the view is breathtaking and worth bringing a camera. It is about a 15 minute hike upward.
Additional activities that Mohonk offers include boating, horseback riding, iceskating and rock climbing.
Some of the little things that I appreciated was the hairdryer in the room since I forgot mine at home and the afternoon tea hour at 4pm, in which you can indulge in some delicious cookies and drink some warm herbal teas in one of their lounges or reading rooms.
One of my colleagues had told me that she bumped into Steven King in the elevator. In short, if Mohonk Mountain is good enough for Steven King, it is good enough for me. I highly recommend this place for couples seeking a quiet getaway.

I have been to the Mohonk Mountain house on several different occasions. Once after a terrifying car accident, when my friend and I climbed to the top of the mountain and admired the view as much as we did the fact our bodies were still intact. Another time, I went with a young love and we drank red wine from the bottle while hiking through the trees. The last visit was with my husband, when we stayed overnight an October weekend celebrating our 1-year anniversary of our first date.
Mohonk Mountain House is located 6 miles west of New Paltz, New York, or 90 minutes from NYC (once you get out of NYC). The resort, or Mountain House, if you will, was built on Lake Mohonk in 1869. It has the decor, presence, and feel of a Victorian castle. The property has over 130km of hiking trails. One of the trails takes you to the top of the mountain through a series of inner caves and paths until you are essentially “birthed” out the top of the peak to a spectacular mountain view where you can see three state lines.
The hotel itself has over 250 rooms, including tower rooms with fireplaces and individual guest cottages. Almost all of the outdoor activities are included with your room rate. During our October weekend, we enjoyed a tennis court all to ourselves, a boat ride on the lake, a horse-drawn carriage ride, a game of table tennis, a nature hike through the woods and gardens, rock climbing to the top of the mountain, and even a little time to relax in the library and read about the history of the resort.
All rates also include three meals, breakfast and lunch buffets and a traditional sit-down dinner. We were so amused by the dinner dress code that we went all out, dressed to the nines. And as we dined on beef tenderloin in a blue cheese demi-glaze and polished off a bottle of Merlot, we sat tall proud of ourselves we had accomplished so many activities in one day and still managed to clean up for a fancy dinner.
If you ever have the unique, wonderful, expensive, wild experience of living in Manhattan, don’t forget about Mohonk Mountain House. It truly is a safe haven from chaos and well worth every penny.
