Great views. Kids loved the water park. But...

Our new rooms were nice with gorgeous views but they were not ready at the 4pm check in time. The kids loved the water park but they charge you $50 extra for a family of five each day. The food is very good especially at the nicer restaurants but very expensive. We had a number of other complaints. Only one of the two ferrys was in service for much of our stay, leading to long wait times to go out to the private island beach. Only of of two panoramic elevators was working for much of our stay. Only two of four free internet lobby computers were working. The deadbolt in one of our rooms was broken. One of the four treadmills was broken. Air hockey and two other games in the small game room were broken. These issues would not be so glaring in a lesser hotel but at $* per night per room we expect more. And the most annoying thing? We wrote a letter detailing these issues and personally handed it to the manager working the front desk on our penultimate day but received absolutely no response whatsoever.

Beautiful!

The Hotel is gorgeous and the people are extremely nice. The rooms were lovely and clean. The only reason I would gave it a 4 and not a 5 is because when you are there, you are there...A trip to the closest market would have cost 20 one way, so you are at their mercy for food and drink and it's very pricey. I would have liked to have seen a little more family friendly options. They were also having alot of non-working elevator issues while I was there. The water park was great. I was on vacation with an 18 month old, 5 year old and 10 year old. The 10 year old was able to go out on her own and do the slides, the 5 year old was absolutely in her element in the very large 2ft pool with a tiny slide. The main pool in the water park goes from 2ft to 4'6" and has the infinity edge that looks like it continues right into the ocean. Gorgeous. Palomino Island is the beach and it was a nice change to go the island and spend some time. The kids loved the boat ride over. The only other thing to consider is there is really nothing to do at night with the kids. There's a small game room and that's it. So we were hard pressed to figure out what to do at night.

Wonderful Views, Palomino is Great! Only two complaints...

The views from the resort were beautiful! You were overlooking the ocean, and the staff were very helpful. Palomino island was a quick ferry ride to a wonderful beach. The rooms were clean and adorable. Overall ,we enjoyed ourselves and would come again. The only two complaints that we have I will list below in hopes that someone will benefit from our lessons learned. 1) BEWARE of the kayaking prices down at the marina. We signed up for what we thought was a 35 dollar a person night snorkling, and it turned out to be a night kayaking trip (lasted one hour) and was $176 dollars! Not worth that kind of money to be certain, and we felt as though we were tricked. The lesson we learned and impart to you, always ask for the total price before you sign up for anything at the marina. The second complaint that we had was 2) The drinks and food at the resort were extremely over priced. You are very much a captive audience and are forced to pay a lot of money for medicore food. For example, by the pool you could order a cheeseburger for 17 dollars, and a coke for 4 dollars. That was cheap compared to the rest of the dining options. Beer and drinks were at least 9 dollars a piece. Come prepared to spend a lot of money on food and drinks. We did find that there is a fishing village down the hill, which served authentic food at reasonble prices, and we certainly recommend that as a break for your wallets.

Overpriced

Very expensive once you get there...everything is extra...peanut butter sandwich $9.00...hotdog $9.00...hamburger $15.00...have to go out for morning coffee...no coffee pot in the room. Transportation to and from the airport $36. per person, each way. As they are 1 hour drive from the airport you would think that they would have complimentary shuttle service as do most better resorts . $20. for bellhop to bring your bags to your room. $16. a day to park if you rent a car. Use of water park on premise extra...everything extra...so if you go with a family expect to spend as there is nothing else around to choose from. Unfortunately, as pretty as the facility is the staff was unfriendly

I read a lot of reviews on this hotel and Puerto Rico in general before our trip and was a little concerned. Looking back, I wish I had chosen a different destination. Everyone was pretty friendly, but they drive horribly and I thought for sure we would get into a few accidents before returning the rental car...but we survived, thankfully. This hotel does have beautiful grounds, but that's about it. The rooms are OK, but the food is horrible and expensive. (We had 2 small chicken wraps for lunch and one soda and after tax/tip it came to $40. 2 tropical, watered-down drinks cost $23-24 after tax/tip.) If you have other choices in the Caribbean, I would go there and not give this a thought! There were kids everywhere and no private adults-only pools, hot tubs, or really even bars/restaurants. We got dressed up one night and went to one of the nicer restaurants, but the food was still bad, and they let a ton of families in, most wearing jeans. This is not the location to have any relaxation or to get away as a couple...
