Hotel El Convento

This is a wonderful, charming Hotel in the heart of Old San Juan where everything is within walking distance. This is not a mega hotel on the beach. This is a quaint hotel where the concierge at the front desk remembered our names. The wine and cheese social hour was wonderfull (and free for hotel quests), you could sit on the balcony overlooking the court yard with good company. The rooms on the first & second floors were from the original old convent with high ceilings and lovely views. The rooms were comfortable but they could use more water pressure in the shower.

I wish we had spent more than one day at this place. It was so pretty, so relaxing. Loved the roof top pool and hot tub (just don't expect to do laps in the pool, very tiny). Rooms were wonderful. Had a very nice view, even if I don't think it was their best view. Really enjoyed the honor bar. In front of the rooms were little table and chairs that you could sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. Staff was very helpful with directions, where to eat, etc. Staff was always respectful also, which is more than I could say about the other guests of the hotel. While I can't speak Spanish very well, I understand pretty good. And one guest, whom I would guess from his accent was from Spain, seemed to looked down his nose at us, saying stuff about X (I am from the states, my friend is native to Puerto Rico). Besides that, everything was wonderful and I fully intend on staying longer my next trip to PR.

Far better than what's advertised!

I carefully looked through many different hotels in San Juan. I definitely didn't want to stay in another one of the Miami-style hotels, as I wanted to experience the authentic Puerto Rico. The lobby, hallway, and our room looked as classy as they're shown in the pictures if not better; and the overall atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous, especially if you're into art and history. From the very time we pulled into valet parking to the checkout point, my boyfriend and I were constantly greeted with friendly staff. We have truly enjoyed every single moment of staying in the hotel. The restaurants in and around the hotel can be expensive although the food is quite good -- do check out different restaurants that may be few blocks down from the hotel. One last advise: remember to google the hotel website and check it out before you make any reservation. You'll know what I mean. Bon voyage! : )

Great hotel - expensive restaurants

This hotel was beautiful; large, modern rooms with all the amenities. The rooftop pool and Jacuzzi were a lovely surprise and the hotel service was exceptional. The restaurants within the hotel were another story; overpriced, mediocre service and food. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, but would recommend eating elsewhere.

A fabulous time.

From the time we checked in, until checkout time, we were treated very well by the staff. We loved the ambiance, the wine and cheese reception each evening, the free wifi, and the location of the hotel in old San Juan. It was perfect for us, since we're not beach people. The hotel is convenient to restaurants and shops. We never felt any uneasiness about the neighborhood. We've already recommended it to friends.
