Sheraton San Juan

Pros: Hotel was very nice. Close to everything in Old San Juan, Rooms were clean, bathroom was nice and big. Hotel concierge was very helpful with recommending restaurants, side trips to go on. Cons: Check in procedures on Sunday (Cruise Ship Day) was a @$%$# nightmare. We arrived to find a 20 minute line to pre check in. So I got on that line while my spouse hung out with the luggage. I was told to come back at 3 PM to check in and get a room. Then I had to get in the 45 minute check you bags line. Three cruise ships were in port that day, but I was told this happens almost every Sunday. The lobby was completely packed with people either checking in bags to either stay at the hotel, or to leave them until later when they either left for the airport or to the cruise ship. Once we got back to the hotel at 3 PM, I had to wait for an hour on the line to get my room. Once in the room, we had to wait another 1 1/2 hours to get our bags, but only when I called to complain that there was medication in my bag that I needed (I lied). The bags were at my room in 5 minutes after the call. Again, hotel was nice, but if you are getting on or departing a cruise ship, or checking in on a day a cruise ship is in port, stay far away.

Check In Was a Nightmare

I didn't realize from the information online that the Sheraton was right across the street from one of the cruise terminals. When we got there on a Sunday morning, the lobby was filled with people coming in from or going out to their cruises. People were lined up out the door as they dropped off their luggage, since check-in isn't permitted until 3PM. The check-in process was pure bedlam and the wait was horrendous. There were two beleagured clerks left to deal with a very large crowd of guests. When we finally got a room at 3:00 p.m., we saw that the carpets in the hallway were threadbare and their was a an unpleasant musty smell throughout the building. The only plus was one of the afternoon clerks who was very helpful when we had problems with the television and telephone. The location provided a good base from which to explore Old San Juan, but I wouldn't stay there again on a day when cruise ships come and go.

The staff was very friendly. I love being greeted by friendly young men to help with your luggage. The front desk was very nice and helpful. The pool was a bit small. It was on the ninth floor and had a great view, but still a small pool. The location is great for walking around old town and enjoying the boats at the pier. The casino is nice sized and wasn't too busy. They have a Chicago Burger right there at the hotel and it was nice. Slow service for us but convenient. We enjoyed walking to local restaurants more. The shopping is great. Little shops every where. The hotel itself was very nice looking and clean.

Hotel was in an excellent location for San Juan. We stayed here two nights before leaving for a cruise - it is close to cruise terminals. Hotel itself was okay. The carpets needed cleaning and the casino is very noisy when entering the hotel. I tried to use the business center, but I never found it was open during stated business hours. When we checked out there was a fee (not taxes) that was a surprise. A "Hotel Service Fee" of 9% was added - I guess it's revenue enhancement for the hotel, rates should cover their "fees." Beware so you get no surprises.

Conveniently located charming hotel and casino.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The room was very large and bed very comfortable. The hotel was conveniently located to restaurants, shopping and the "free trolley" stop. The trolley will take anyone to different locations. This city has great historic charm. The bus station was about 1 block away and you can go in and get the bus for the new area of San Juan should one choose to do go shopping at the large American Mall. This hotel was a great place for us to stay!!! I will go back to this hotel
