Angel Fire Resort Hotel

This hotel is getting older and needs a bit of updating. The only bad thing is the restaurant was not open in the hotel, and there are not a lot of options for dining. There is one restaurant up by the chair lift for the Chili Express, and their food is not very impressive. The room we had was large and comfortable, but one thing I noticed is that none of the rooms as far as I could tell had a microwave. Also there is no air conditioning in the hotel, which is only a problem during hot days in August, but not extremely uncomfortable. For the price it was a good value.

Angel Fire Cabin Share

Our family of four recently stayed at this charming resort. Angel Fire Resort is a large hotel at the base of the mountain in the heart of the town of Angel Fire. The cabins are about two miles away, tucked away in the mountains. They are very close to the Angle Fire resort golf course. We stayed in the cabins, but the resort lets you use their pools, Internet, and workout gym at the main hotel.

The cabins were basic but very nice. They each have three bedrooms, and a large living room/kitchen/dining room. They also have a wood burning stove inside. We own a timeshare in Texas and are a member of RCI Points. We were able to use RCI and cash in some RCI points and pay the exchange fee to confirm our reservation at Angel Fire.

The beds were comfortable and the cabin was clean. The cabins had no a/c which is usually not a problem, but in the middle of the summer it can get warm in the mountains...even at that high elevation. A box fan we found in a closet made things a lot more comfortable.

The elevation can be a problem for some. If you have a heart condition I do not recommend this area. The cabin has a set of stairs to climb to get to the front door. Even in good health, I felt winded after climbing these stairs.

The cabins are off by themselves. You will need a car to enjoy the area. We found lots of fun things to do. We went trout fishing in Eagle Nest which is only 9 miles away. We also went trout fishing on the Cimmeron Creek just east of Eagle Nest. Eagle Nest Lake is a much better fishing hole than the creek.

We also took a white water rafting adventure down the Rio Grand river. This is about an hour and 15 minutes from your cabin. We are novices at river rafting. We took the "Racecourse" river cruise and found it ideal for beginners. The 2-hour trip goes through areas with level 3 rapids. There are many rafting outfits between Santa Fe and Taos.

We also took the Toltic/Cumbers train ride. This is about an hour and a half from Angel Fire. We took the all day train from Antintio to Chama. A bus took us back to our car. The train ride was fantastic, going through tunnels, hugging mountain cliffs, and chugging up steep grades.

If you are going to the Angel Fire area, you will have a blast. There are no fast food restaurants, but there are plenty of Mom and Pop places to eat. Our favorite was Willys, which had fantastic ribs. There is a pizza place on Angel Fire drive that has great green chili pizza.

If you want to escape the fast pace of the world, I would put Angel Fire high on my list.

Swimming pool closed durring summer

I booked this resort because it had a swimming pool but the swimming pool was closed. The maid never came to clean the room. I had to get my own towels. The front desk makes you wait 5 mintues before they come out of their back break room to help you every time. only one place in town was open that served breakfast,(Avalons) it was awful. And the near bye lake doesn't even allow swimming. if your looking for summer recreation this is not the place.
