Construction nightmare

We were very excited about returning to Chicago our previous home town of over 35 yrs. Online, the hotel seemed nice. The doorman was excellent. The front desk was not very friendly. The construction noise is unbearable.I cannot believe this hotel placed us in a room so close to the construction. At 8 pm state street was closed to traffic, the construction trucks rolled in, and the noise began. Againts my better judgement I decided to stay the night. I voiced my concern to the front desk. Their reply was that they can give me some ear plugs. $300 a night and this is all you are going to do for me? The room was the smallest I ever stayed in with a tiny TV and no coffee pot . I urge you to consider staying somewhere else. At least untill the construction is over. The cafe was nice but there are a lot of excellent restaurants in Chicago. That is what we miss about chicago the most.

The staff seemed positively thrilled to be there. The location can't be beat. Everything was elegant in the extreme, and spotless. The food in the in-house restaurant was super. The valet parking was shockingly expensive.

Cramped Quarters

Staff at this hotel were very friendly and willing to help. Very small, boutique hotel, with the smallest guest rooms you will ever encounter. I would compare their size to extreme budget rooms in Paris. Some would call the decor eclectic, others would call it bizarre. Extremely noisy, with lots of street noise, antique elevators, and undergoing construction. On site restaurant was good, NOT 5 star, as advertised. Typical breakfast entrees were $20. Many wars going on between restaurant staff & management.

Nice hotel, but very small rooms! Perhaps they need to put in smaller beds! For two people, it was rather cramped and wore on the nerves! However, the Atwood Cafe on the ground floor was 5 STAR! Location, right acorss from Marshall Fields and lots of other goodies was wonderful!
