great location

It's a nice place, good view of the canal if you pay extra. we ordered breakfast twice - it wasn't all bad but we've had better. the hot air thermostat in the room wasn't working properly, there weren't any hangers in the bathroom to hang the towels and the bathrobe had holes in it. if you don't bring your laptop you won't be able to connect with what they provide because the cables were missing. the staff is very helpful and there is Starbucks in the lobby.

One of the best overall properies in Chicago, period

I am a "road warrior" Platinum Member of Marriott and Diamond Member of Hyatt. This property won as the best city Renaissance in the country for 2007. The location is the best in Chicago. The views of the river, Trump tower, and Wrigley Building are fabulous. The rooms are old elegant with great beds, writing desks and bathrooms that have first class amenities including high end make up mirrors, separate showers and tubs. They even will shine your shoes in minutes, delivered in a beautiful metal basket with tissue, for free 24 hours a day. The work out area is top of the line with sauna and steam. The indoor pool with skylight over the pool is my favorite anywhere I travel. I find the service overall comparable to the Park Hyatt or other 4 and 5 star properties. I have stayed here at least 15 times over the last 3 years. It is quite simply my #1 choice to stay in Chicago, period.

Very Bad Service

My husband and I had a very upsetting experience at your hotel today. I booked a room for my husband and me to celebrate his birthday and was told that my room would include a hot tub and separate shower as well as Champaign and Strawberries. When we entered the room, not only did we not have the hot tub and separate shower, we didn't have the champagne or strawberries either. I contacted the front desk to complain and was told they would upgrade my room for no extra charge, but when I entered the new room I found that, while the room had a separate shower, it still didn't have a hot tub. I traveled 2 hours for this hotel stay, and not to mention I planned this night for my husband?s birthday, which was ruined. This hotel was chosen because I was told that it had a hot tub and separate shower. When I called the front desk and reservations I was told multiple times that it was nothing they could do for me. I was treated very poorly by reservations and as far as the front desk; they acted like the only people that could help me was reservations which reservations told me that was not the case. So not only did I not get the room I was promised, I wasted 2 hours on the phone going back and forth from the front desk to reservations. Unfortunately, due to the situation and the way we were being treated, I ended up cancelling my reservations and headed back home for another 2 hour ride.

Plush, Wonderful Staff, Total Immersion, Great View

I got an INCREDIBLE deal from travel website. I spent about $*for this $*+ room per night so that in itself was heaven. My view was one of the most breathtaking, the Chicago River sparkled just below my window, the skyline and myriad architecture rose like an concrete sculpture lit at night by streetlamp and the soft glow of rooms lit across the skyline. Room service, I spoiled myself, was exceptional. The beds were simply regal with down comforters and pillows. The shower was fit for a star, marble with double sink as I recall and glass shower. Internet access in my room through remote. A lovely desk to write cards and watch the view. The staff were so accomodating and treated me like I was an ambassador from a neighboring country. No I'm not kidding. This was truly a grand visit. I went to my sister's graduation for her master's at Art Institute. She stayed one of the nights and we talked until late hours, watching the night life like to ravens in our nest. What could be better. Simply nothing!

NOT a Four-Star hotel!!!

Was TERRIBLY disappointed! We stay at 4-star properties all the time, and this is definitely NOT comparable. Scratchy towels in bathroom. Room was TINY. Water pressure in shower was a dribble. Housekeeping was awful. Concierge was USELESS for even basic questions. Room service was painfully slow & then left items off of our "package" breakfast that we picked from their menu. Shower is in same room as toilet & sink like a cheap motel. Front desk was very understaffed. Maps at concierge were black & white copies from a copy machine & small print does not copy well. When trying to call room service, line rang & rang, then transferred to hotel operator, who transferred us back to room service where it rang & rang again, and then disconnected me. I called back, and after 6 or 7 rings, they finally picked up--but food was delivered after 45 minutes, despite hotel's "25 minutes" policy. On the plus side however, the bell desk & doormen were top-notch with baggage storage, hailing cabs, opening doors, etc. If you are looking for excellent service and have 4-star expectations, this is NOT the place to stay. If you are looking for an adequate experience in Chicago, this is a great location on the river.
