Description: My husband and I ventured up to Edinburgh to watch the mighty All Blacks take on Scotland at Murrayfield. We stayed at the Balmoral Hotel for one luxurious night and I cannot wait to return!
The hotel is one of the oldest in Edinburgh and is certainly one of the most luxurious. The decor is classical - think roaring log fires in the communal areas and thick carpets throughout.
When you arrive you are greeted by a uniformed doorman wearing a long coat and top hat. Reception staff are friendly and cannot do enough for you - forgot your toothbrush? No problem they can help. Need to know a good restaurant or somewhere to go in Edinburgh - just ask and the staff will give you their personal recommendations. This was particularly special - as one lovely lady directed me to the best hot chocolate cafe in Edinburgh (but that will be another review!)
The rooms are huge! We had an ensuite bathroom with an amazing sunken bath - a toilet - his and hers sinks. As a newly married couple it was a very romantic setting. The bed was a King sized four poster offering, and was warm and cozy.
Avoid the mini bar in the room it is horribly expensive - instead do what we did and buy a bottle of bubbly - bring it into the room and share a bubble bath using the posh bubble bath which is provided.
If you need to watch TV there is Sky in each room so you get a large choice of channel. The room will be spotless too - and if you do have any problems housekeeping promise to sort it out immediately.
What was great about this hotel was that the staff were friendly, the rooms big and comfortable and the breakfast buffet amazing.
What was bad - it is a tad expensive - we paid £150 for the night on a special offer but normal rates are better.
Would I recommend this hotel?
Absolutely - if it is good enough for the royal family it is good enough for me!
