My husband and I stayed at the MH for 2 days and unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews BEFORE we went. I would have been informed of the daily parking fees of $54 per day which was not mentioned in the website of this hotel. Also, we were very disappointed that the restaurant was permenantly closed; also not mentioned in the website. The Top of the Mark was only serving 'light' fare. We had drinks and a 'light' appetizer which was quite delicious. When we asked about the restaurant they suggested the Big Four at the Huntington which was absolutely perfect and in keeping with the San Francisco attitude. Our room was TINY with hardly any room for our luggage but it was very upscale and beautiful with a fabulous view. Breakfast at the Top of the Mark was $28 per person for the buffet; which was all they offered. Somehow our bill totaled $70+. They, of course, added 15% gratuity AND a service charge. I know we were paying for the view, but....COME ON!! It wouldn't have been so bad if the food had been really fabulous but it was less than mediocre and not warm enough.
Top Notch!

The Mark Hopkins is a gorgeous hotel. The architecture and feel of the hotel gave our trip something you just can't get at a Hilton - no offense intended. Our room was perfect, the hotel was spotless. The bed was comfortable and the linens were fantastic. I also found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant. The concierge always returned my phone calls, even if he couldn't accomodate my requests. We were at the Mark Hopkins for four nights. It's location to the cable car lines, buses and street cars made getting around very easy. I would recommend purchasing a MUNI pass, for unlimited rides on the buses, streetcars, trains and cable cars. The Top of the Mark, shouldn't be missed! If you want to dine there, make a reservation BEFORE your trip. I also woudn't recommend renting a car - parking is San Fancisco is challenging and expensive (40-50 dollars per night), but with all of the transportation available, a car really isn't necessary.
One thing that might bother some people is the traffic noise. We were on the 8th floor and you can hear the cable cras and buses on the street. It didn't bother me, but I can sleep through just about anything.
We didn't eat at the hotel because there are so many places to eat in San Francisco. Great breakfast, can be found 3 blocks down on Powell St. We liked the Cable Car Diner and Lefty O'douls (across form Union Square)
I know that we'll go back to San Francisco - and I know that we'll stay at the Mark Hopkins again!
The Greatest Hotel Ever! At Least for Me!
We went for a weekend show in the bay area. Redbull had put us in a hotel as they were sponsoring the event. We thought that it was gonna be a cheap hotel...based on old experiences..lol...but when we got there, we learned that it was the newest hotel in town and they prepared room for each one of us. We thought that we had double accommodation but it wasn't like that...Extreme space in the room with beautiful views of the bay area...also it has a sun deck and a smoking patio on the eight floor. Amazing views of the hills from that place! really i hope if you ever stop at San Fransisco,Ca. try to stay in that place!!! Great service and great personal.
It would help

Our stay at the Mark was for the most part enjoyable, but for the following dislikes that I find quite inapropatate for a hotel of this quality. These are as follows: Charging an excorbanent amount of money for such items as cotton balls and swabs ($12.00). Intefrnet charges of $12.95 per day. This is outragous as even Comfort Suites does not charge for internet services. Finally, $55.00 per day for parking a car is more than one can stand. $55.00 per day plus any tip that you might impart to the attendent equals $60 or $65/day depending how many times you get your car from parking. The advertisement on the television is more for the Mark than it is for any other product being advertised including car dealerships. What happened to the exceptional old fasion service the Mark use to provide and care? It is not at this hotel, thats for sure.

Our 40th aniversary was a WOW! My husband called ahead to the concierge to arrange flowers and the "full MH experience" and we were not dissappointed. Great location, great room, helpful, friendly staff, the most beautiful flowers. Absolutely over the top!
