We drove in from the Western Coast and were able to get an early check in. The location was central and we enjoyed a walk around the area before headng into Old San Juan. We even went to teh local beach. There were a variety of both "american" and local restaurants. We felt very safe. Parking was only $10.00 per night. Breakfast was included in the cost of the room and it was very good. Again, we receommend this hotel.

I have to say I was a little hesitant of this hotel based on the cost. Wasn't expecting much, and maybe with a few problems. Quite the opposite. Very clean fand new lobby, very clean rooms, nice area for continental breakfast w/ coffee and juices. Can't ask for anything more. In the "business center" you can get on-line for free on one of their two computers!!! Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and luxury hotels w/ casinos. They even have an "excusion" desk, so if you feel like a tour, they'll book it for you. We did the "Fort" tour in Old San Juan and it was fabulous. My 7 year old loved it. Found a great place to eat called "Cafe Puerto Rico" in the Plaza area. Good food, reasonably priced and GREAT Mojitos!!!!!! We only stayed for a couple of nights prior to boarding our cruise ship. There were 12 of us that stayed here and would stay here again. Overall, I give it a thumbs up!
Loved Our Stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this clean, well-maintained hotel. It's located 1/2 block off of Ashford Avenue in Condado, a very convenient location. Many very good restaurants are within walking distance (we especially liked Orozco's for authentic PR food), it's a 1/2 block from a nice public park and a nice public beach. The bus stop is also within a block, and for $.75 you can be in Old San Juan in about 12 minutes. Taxi's were almost always available right outside the front entrance. The room was not large, but had been remodeled and was well decorated and very nice. The bed was very comfortable. If you are driving, try to call ahead and reserve a parking space, since there are only a few spaces in their gated lot. We didn't swim in the pool, but it looked nice, and the equipment in the exercise room appeared new, althought we didn't take advantage of it. The complimentary breakfast was fruit, bagels/pastries, juice, and cereal -- nothing hot, but that was not an issue for us. Overall we thought it was a great place to stay, an excellent value for the money, would recommend it to our friends and would not hesitate to stay there again!
Excellent value on a budget.

Front desk very helpful. Hotel very clean and safe. Bed comfy in small, quiet room. Didn't spend much time at hotel due to island's beauty! Breakfast was great; repetitive by the end of the week. Pool area was nice, but only one block to park area and beautiful, quiet, clean, sparsely populated beach. One block from high-end designer boutiques, local bus stop, and car rental. Easy walking distance to local restaurants as well as fast food and Walgreens. Overall, this hotel was in a great location and was a great value.
Just as Advertised......with one exception.

Read the other reviews for this hotel. They are very accurate and contain lots of good travel tips. I explored all of the hotels in the Condado area and HIE looked to be the best by far for low budget vacationers. If you want something nicer choose the Marriott or especially the Condado Plaza Hotel, which was very stylish with real Puerto Rican atmosphere. This was my first trip to the island and my observations are as follows: The GOOD: Ashford Ave (main street) is safe, vibrant, with many dining options; Outstanding service everywhere I went; Very friendly people; strong security/police presence in Condado; Old San Juan is fabulous, don't miss it! It's a trek but I walked it twice; and finally in case you've never seen it in person, the ocean water is spectacular! The BAD: Be prepared for extremely powerful rays from the sun; The beach space is limited. Walk down to the Marriott beach area, it's not far. There's a guy just before the Marriott who rents beach chairs for $3; The surf is very rough. I luckily caught a couple of mild days early in the week I was there. The other days the only people in the water were surfers. The UGLY: I had to reserve space for this final category in order to prepare first time visitors for what they will inevitably encounter. Brace yourself for pervasive litter. I was pretty shocked to see it almost everywhere I went. I even witnessed several people (young and old) littering right in front of me. You name it, they toss it!
I live in a popular tourist town in the US and these guys are way behind the curve when it comes to presenting a clean environment. Otherwise, Puerto Rico is a very beautiful place.
