A Vile Petri Dish of Filth and Bad Odors!

I booked three nights in this hotel, for a trip celebrating a good friend's birthday. We wanted to stay somewhere downtown, park the car and enjoy the Fremont Street attractions on foot. We chose the Plaza for its location and price: big mistake.
The warning signs were there early, starting with the disgusting garage. We checked in, and while I had ordered a non-smoking room, we were told that only smoking rooms were available. The elevator groaned and squealed as we went up, before shuddering and shaking to a stop at my floor. I opened my door and was greeted with an unspeakably awful smell, like a mixture of cigarette butts, vomit and Lysol. I flicked on the light switch, but the room remained dark. As I entered, my foot hit something metal and sent it flying across the room. (This turned out to be a large steel kickplate from a vacuum cleaner.)
I groped around the room until I found the bathroom, and turned on the light. As the fluorescent fixtures flickered and buzzed to life, I found myself wishing it was still dark. Now I've traveled all over the world, including third world regions of Asia and central America, but I've never been in a hotel room as disgusting as this. The wallpaper was deep yellow with cigarette smoke, and was peeling up at every seam. The bathroom tile was moldy and cracked, and the toilet seat had a two inch cigarette burn. (I can't imagine the circumstances under which somebody would place their cigarette on the toilet seat!) The carpet was so dirty you could barely see the pattern through the wide variety of dark mysterious stains. Everything in the room (lamps, phone TV remote, table) was sticky with gooey residue, which I desperately hoped wasn't some kind of bodily fluid. I opened the window to try to air out the foul stench, but it only hinged open a few inches.
I immediately called another hotel (The Golden Nugget) to make new accomodations. Sadly, nothing was available for that night so I had to bed down for one night at the Plaza. I used toilet paper (there was no box of tissues provided) to grab and toss the DNA encrusted bedspread into the corner, and pulled back the covers. The sheets themselves (miraculously) seemed clean, so I settled in for the night and tried to ignore the awful smell. The bed itself was rock-hard, and had a strange crunchy feel and sound, as though the mattress contained a layer of pebbles. (This was probably dried out, crunchy foam rubber.) I tried to not think about the pillow, and the variety of mites and pathogens that surely called it home.
In the morning, I had a headache and sore throat, from inhaling that smell all night. I wanted out of there IMMEDIATELY, so I hopped in the shower. The rubber mat in the shower was yellow and nasty, and the shallow soap dish had jagged metal edges. Turn the valve...wonderful, no hot water!!! The faucet at the sink worked OK, so clearly the shower valve was defective. After my ice water shower, there was no way I would walk around on that revolting carpet, so I wrapped hand towels around my feet and shuffled around as I shaved and dressed.
Seriously people, this joint is disgusting beyond belief, a wretched petri dish of filth. Just being in the room filled my head with depressing thoughts, and the last thing you want to do is wake up in such a demoralizing place...everything about it screams "flophouse." You deserve better.

The first time I stayed in Vegas we stayed here. That was forever ago it seems but in fact its only been 14 years. I can remember parking on the top floor of the parking garage and walking into the hotel. I was taken aback it was so ritzy I thought. It being the first place I stayed at in Vegas I was in love with it. It was to be where I stayed for the next 5 years every time I went out to Vegas. They had good rates for there rooms and it made me happy to be there. I knew every square inch and felt comfortable when I was there.
The rooms seemed very large to me and well stocked with pillows and towels. I was happy with it that is till I stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton. Then I started to notice how shabby it really was.
The last time we stayed we got a suite. I was happy as it had a microwave and a mini fridge and if you travel with kids every one knows that you need a mini fridge and a microwave to make snacks and ever thing else that little kids want, but putting that aside it could not make up for the lack of maintence that was obivious every where I looked.
The carpet was stained an burnt in several places by cigarettes having asked for a non smoking room I was very upset. Then looking around the room I was even more appalled when my daughter pulled a hustler magazine from under one of the beds. It was quite apparent that this hotel was not doing what it should to keep its guests safe and sound. It also seemed tha maybe the maids should be taught to bend over.
I was very upset and went straight to the front desk and complained. They did comp our room and try to make everything ok, but how do you fix that. I understand that we are in Vegas Sin City but its only like that if you go out and look for it. The last place I wanted to find it was in my room where it was not requested to be.
That was our last time staying at the hotel but we do make it a point to stop off there at least once during our frequent trips. This place has a draw for me. My husband and I stayed here when we got married 11 years ago. It was for me a happy place and I have to say I think my daughter may have been concieved there as well.
Many movies have been filmed here, the list includes my favorite movie Cool World, Casino and many others. Out front of the Hotel they have a list of all the movies that it has been in. Its really neat to see them all and to try and picture where and when it was used.
This hotel/casino has maybe seen better days as far as the hotel goes but the casino is still a pretty happening place and we do make it one of our stops on our trips for the nostalgia it brings.
Happy with our stay

We stayed at the plaza for 7 days. After booking our stay I noticed a lot of negative comments were being posted about this hotel which really concerned me. When we got there the staff was very friendly and let us check in early. The rooms were very large but the bathroom was extremely small. The rooms were clean but the carpets were pretty dirty and stained. The swimming pool was the bomb my kids loved it it was clean and fun. We never ate at the buffet there but from what people were saying it was a grease pit so we passed on it but we did eat at the Omlette House every morning which was outstanding they serve very large portions so sharing would be advised. Slot machines are very tight wouldn't reccommend playing there. Did much better at binions, treasure island and the 4 queens.

You get what you pay for. I didn't really like the whole set-up of having to valet on one side of the hotel (south tower) and walking across the casino to check in at the front desk (north tower). The room was clean but, the toilet didn't work. I notified housekeeping about the problem. An engineer did go and try to take care of the problem and notified us about parts needing to be replaced but, do to the shift change, someone else would come up to perform repairs (it never happened). Upon checking out, I made the front desk aware of the issue. Their reply was "next time just contact the front desk". Hmm..... I don't think I will be staying at this hotel anymore. The only great thing about it was that it is conveniently located right across the street from Fremont, that's it.
Great hotel, location and staff. Very happy!

Very happy with everything. Our hotel was clean, very comfy beds, nice pool and bars. Too bad I didn't win anything but still had a blast! This was my first trip to Las Vegas although everyone I traveled with had been there numerous times. The Freemont Experience was excellent!! Can't complain about anything expect losing. LOL
