In my experience this has not always been the case, often they are in not so nice areas and the rooms are less than desirable. This particular hotel was in a nice enough location, just a few miles from Newcastle city centre. You will need a car or a taxi to get to it and although there is a Mcdonalds and a pub onsite as well as a co-op there isn't a lot around. In fact this hotel is just off the A1 so I suppose ideal for a flying visit. However, without a car you will be pretty much stranded so I would look for somewhere closer to either a metro station or the city centre, because it will expensive to keep paying for taxis.

In terms of the hotel, we got checked in quickly and efficiently and the staff were really friendly. We paid an extra £10 for an early check-in so we managed to get checked in at 12pm rather than the usual 3pm. We were given a downstairs double room with an en-suite bathroom. The corridors leading to the room were nice and clean and newly decorated. The room itself matched this and everything was neat and tidy. The bed looked a bit saggy in the middle but otherwise there was everything in it's place. There was a small LCD flatscreen t.v. in the room that had freeview, meaning you could choose from at least 30 different channels. There were a couple of mirrors, (including a full length one) a desk, a wardrobe and towels for the bathroom. We were a little disappointed that there were only 2 pillows on the bed and had to go and ask for some extra ones from reception, which we got without a problem.

The bathroom was modern and clean and there was a shower that would have been accessible for wheelchairs. The shower itself had good temperature control and although it wasn't an amazing power shower it did it's job. The only things lacking, and obviously this is because it is a budget hotel, were the little bottles of shampoo and conditioner (so don't forget your own). We had a small bar of soap but that was it, you can however buy a kit from reception if you have forgotten toiletries, but I kind of like them to be included in the hotel price.

Anyway we enjoyed our days out and then spent two very restful nights at this hotel, the bed was comfy and there was no noise round about the hotel that disturbed us and we slept with windows open. Breakfast was another thing not included in the price of the hotel, you can order one for the morning, but it is like a bag of continental breakfast for £7 and I didn't think it was worth it. So we ate out each morning and just forgot about the breakfast. However, if you had a family or someone who suffered from low blood sugar levels not having a place to sit and eat breakfast is a bit rubbish. I know I've said this is a budget hotel, and they do often have offers that mean you can get a room for £19, but we paid £70 so we expected breakfast included.

Perhaps I am being too picky, because we did sleep really well and felt safe and secure. The rooms were cleaned and tidied every morning and we could be in the room at any time in the day if we needed some down time. All in all a good little stop off on your way somewhere or if you want somewhere out of the city centre to stay. Close
