Disappointing Timeshare Experience

All have been very good, until this experience. While the timeshare unit we had (a one bedroom, standard) was adequate for us, it was a bit tight on space.

The standard 1BR units have the mini kitchen with the dinette table and chairs right in the center of the common open room with the living room. A sleeper sofa makes this a unit rated for occupancy of four. The bathroom is a standard outside of the bedroom area, with a tub/shower. Unfortunately, they had not received their shipment of toiletries so they were short on the shampoo and body lotion. I love their Body & Bath Works toiletries so not being able to pick up another small bottle of the lotion was a letdown.

The bedroom features a king sized bed which fills the room, when the two night stands and a small chest of drawers are added. A nice flat screen TV is also in the bedroom for those insomniacs needing something to bore them to sleep.

We have stayed at the deluxe 1BR units at this resort as well. The main difference is the overall space provided. The bedroom has a jetted bath tub in the room, with a large bathroom with an encased shower. The living space has full sized kitchen and appliances and a more defined living/dining room area.

The resort does have some nice features including a game room on the first floor that has a pool table. We were told at check-in that their coffee and snack service would be available 24/7 throughout our stay, but unfortunately that did not turn out to be the case. The coffee machine was empty a couple of days before our departure and I don't recall seeing snacks in there other than on the night of their wine & cheese reception.

This timeshare resort also shares general space with the Hilton Hotel next door. Parking is underground and free for one car per timeshare unit. One the second floor of the resort is access to the Hilton's indoor swimming pool, sauna and fitness center. Guests of the Wyndham also have the opportunity to have room service provided by Seagar's (the Hilton's restaurant).

The biggest concern for us was the noise. This timeshare resort is right on the Metrorail system which is their biggest attribute and benefit for those wanting to explore in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, a majority of the units face the back of the building and the rail tracks. With the humming of the trains and whistles throughout the day and evening, it can be a bit of a distraction.

We also had issues with the housekeeping staff rolling their carts at very early and late hours of the day. Our room was directly across from their work area. After a couple of mornings I did call the front desk only to be blown off with a "people have to start their jobs in the morning" after being awaken at 6:30am. We also found that with the common laundry area also across from our room, people were doing laundry late at night, rolling those carts around making noise on the ceramic tile floors.

We like this location a lot for the convenience, but I doubt we will stay here again given the sleeping challenges we had on this trip. It is difficult to get a good day of touring in when you are tired due to lack of sleep.

This timeshare is considered a premium location by timeshare owners and users around the world, largely due to their proximity to Washington, DC. It is one of only two that are in the immediate DC Metro Area, and is generally available to Wyndham points owners. You may on rare occasion see availability via the timeshare exchange network RCI, which is how we got to stay here back in 2002 or 2003. Sometimes owners will offer their week on rental sites such as Redweek or VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner). Expect to pay between $150 (1BR) and $250 (2BR) per night for rentals.
